Team History

Owned and operated by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), Toronto FC is one of three Canadian teams in the MLS and plays out of the 30,000-seat BMO Field. MLSE also owns the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), and Toronto Argonauts (CFL).

Toronto FC was the first Canadian team in the MLS, joining as an expansion franchise in 2007. The name of the franchise was chosen via an online vote among fans, with other options including Inter Toronto FC, Toronto Northmen, and the Toronto Reds. The team, which primarily wears red, white, and black colors, is often referred to by media and fans as “the Reds.” However, it started wearing a black and white home kit for the 2022 season.

While the franchise struggled early on, it has since become one of the premier clubs in MLS. Toronto FC stats has the highest player payroll among all MLS odds teams in 2022 and is the fifth most valuable MLS betting stats club behind Atlanta United FC, LA Galaxy, LAFC, and Seattle Sounders FC.

Toronto FC’s most successful year was in 2017, when it became the first MLS club to win the domestic treble. That year, Toronto FC stats won the Canadian Championship, MLS Cup, and Supporters’ Shield for finishing first in the MLS standings.
