In the middle of January, the Producers Guild of America announced the nominees for the film and TV categories for the 2023 Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards. Typically, the awards program not only showcases some of the brightest and most creative minds in Hollywood, but also serves as a thermometer of what might come in the Oscars.
This is because the Oscars and the PGA share a lot of the same memberships.
There are three movie and seven TV categories waiting to find winners this year when the results are announced on February 25. The 34th PGA Awards will be held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA, and sportsbooks have been following closely with their Guild of America Awards Odds.
Best Picture
There are a number of top picks for Best Picture this year, although the Sci-Fi film Everything Everywhere All at Once leads the charts. It also had 11 Oscar nominations, putting it in a unique class. However, Stephen Spielberg and The Fabelmans is a very strong contender, as well.
Tom Cruise and Top Gun: Maverick make the list, although the box office smash will have a harder time finding success in the voting. Cruise has been vocal about his opposition to many awards programs in the past, which could weigh on the PGA’s decision.
The list of nominations includes the following:
- Everything Everywhere All at Once
- Top Gun: Maverick
- The Fabelmans
- The Banshees of Inisherin
- Elvis
- Avatar: The Way of Water
- TAR
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
- Glass Onion
- The Whale
Best Animated Feature
In the Guild of America Awards Odds for Best Animated Feature, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio stands out. Pinocchio is always a crowd favorite, and the response at theaters reinforced the wooden boy’s popularity. del Toro has almost no competition in this race, despite having similar odds to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish in the entertainment betting lines.
The following nominations have made it to the list:
- Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
- Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
- Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
- Turning Red
- Minions: The Rise of Gru
Best Documentary Feature
Love stories are always a hit; combining love and tragedy is a double threat. That’s the case with Fire of Love, the tragic love story of two French volcanologists who perished in the Mount Unzen volcano eruption in 1991. In any America Awards odds, this story would be a favorite to win and is a huge favorite with the PGA.
Here are the nominations included on the list:
- Fire of Love
- Navalny
- All That Breathes
- Descendant
- Retrograde
- The Territory
- Nothing Compares
Best Drama Series
For this year’s Best Drama Series, one show stands out in front by a huge margin. The White Lotus: Sicily has captivated audiences worldwide since its debut in 2021, and oddsmakers don’t see how any other show can challenge it. Even though there are some other outstanding options, backing The White Lotus through entertainment props betting is a good choice.
The list consists of the following nominations:
- The White Lotus: Sicily
- Better Call Saul
- Severance
- Andor
- Ozark
Best Comedy Series
Abbott Elementary already took three Emmy awards, but recently failed to win another. When it didn’t capture the Best Comedy Series at the Emmys this last time around, it may have been a sign. While Abbott Elementary is on top with the sportsbooks now, Barry has a lot of value as an outsider.
Included on the list are the following nominations:
- Abbott Elementary
- The Bear
- Only Murders in the Building
- Hacks
- Barry
Best TV Movie
Weird Al Yankovic, the quirky musician who dominated the airwaves with his eclectic style in the 1980s and 1990s, is back. This time, he’s the star of a movie about his life, which is currently the frontrunner to win the PGA’s Best TV Movie Award. In usual Weird Al fashion, he stands out once again and deserves top billing in the America Awards predictions.
Here are the nominees that made the list:
- Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
- Prey
- Fire Island
- Hocus Pocus 2
- Disney’s Pinocchio
Best Variety Program
Few shows polarize audiences as much as late-night TV shows, and the past year has been no different. From John Oliver to Colin Jost to Trevor Noah, there’s no shortage of personalities who know how to strike a chord.
Saturday Night Live is the favorite to win the Best Variety Program category, but an underdog could take it this year. Trevor Noah and the Daily Show with Trevor Noah, despite all its controversies, is a strong choice.
Listed below are the nominations:
- Saturday Night Live
- Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
- Jimmy Kimmel Live
- Late Show with Stephen Colbert
- Daily Show with Trevor Noah
Best Limited Series
There are several good candidates in the Best Limited Series category, but one in particular stands out. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a series that has the widest appeal, and its captivating production makes it the best option.
The list contains the following nominations:
- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
- The Dropout
- Pam and Tommy
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Inventing Anna
The two remaining categories, Best Reality Series and Best Non-Fiction Series, also provide some good options for bettors looking at the Guild of America Awards Odds.
In the former, RuPaul’s Drag Race is almost the guaranteed winner. In the latter, it’s a coin flip between Lucy and Desi and Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. However, Lucy and Desi should take it.
