During the 1950s and 1960s, countries were looking to win the Space Race and land the first man on the moon. That was a pretty intense race that required a ton of money and equipment, but getting to the moon is no longer the goal.
Now, it looks as if it is all about getting to Mars first, as everyone is interested in what is on the red planet. It’s not going to be easy to get to Mars, but it does feel like we are getting closer, and there are several groups that are working to get to that point.
Since you can now pretty much bet on everything, there is a chance to make a prediction as to what group will be able to get to Mars first. Here is a look at the first human on Mars odds that are currently available for you to wager on.
A Look at the Odds
Before taking a deeper dive into some of the organizations that are looking to get to Mars, it’s important to look at the first human on Mars odds that are out there. It looks as if this is a pretty select group at this point, as there are only four organizations with odds listed.
Here are the current odds:
Organization | Odds |
Space X | -400 |
Blue Origin | +300 |
Boeing | +500 |
NASA | +2500 |
You should always be looking for value when you are making a bet on entertainment, and going with the big favorite isn’t always the best plan. Space X does appear to be the group that is the closest to getting a person on Mars, but there is still some time for others to catch up.
Space X was founded by Elon Musk back in 2002, and it has been working on this mission for nearly 20 years. It’s pretty common to see Space X launch into outer space a time or two each year, and people are already lining up to try to be the first to get to Mars.
Since the money never seems to end for Musk, this organization is never going to run out of funds or the equipment that is needed. There is also a pretty big group of scientists that are working on this plan as they attempt to get to Mars.
The Other Contenders
Blue Origin is also working hard to have the Mars first landing for humans, and the odds suggest that it is still in the mix to get that done. Jeff Bezos is the founder of this company and, like Musk, has enough money to allow for a successful mission to Mars.
Boeing has been a worldwide leader in air travel for decades, but most people associate it with jet engines and commercial travel. Getting someone to Mars doesn’t exactly fall under the commercial travel that is most common, but it’s not a major step up.
You will notice that the first human on Mars odds for NASA are not very good at all, making it a pretty clear underdog in this. That might be disappointing if you are a citizen of the United States, but NASA has other things that it has to worry about as well.
One thing to keep in mind when looking at these odds is that this is something that has literally never been done before, and no one really knows when it will happen. That could cause the odds to shift quite a bit over the next few months as companies begin to make some major breakthroughs.
