U.S. Open Players to watch
Scottie Sheffler (+650)
The no. 1 player in the world is the betting favorite heading into this week and our favorite US Open Prediction. Sheffler has been at the top of his game in recent golf events, finishing T5 or better in his last four outings.
The 26-year-old’s only weakness has been his putting, where he ranks 148th in Strokes Gained: Putting on Tour. Even with his putter giving him fits, Scheffler has made up for it by leading the field in SG: Off the Tee and SG: Approach to Green.
Jon Rahm (+1100)
Rahm won his second major earlier this year and has a U.S. Open title already under his belt. Unlike Scottie, there are no weaknesses in the Spaniards’ game, and the no. 2 player in the world should feast on the LACC layout.
The 28-year-old already has racked up four victories this season to go along with four additional top 10 finishes. Rahm wasn’t his best at the PGA Championship, where he finished T50, but a T16 a few weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament shows us that the current Masters champion is still a betting favorite.
Brooks Koepka (+1100)
A healthy Brooks Koepka should be a frontrunner in everyone’s US Open Prediction to win the tournament. After picking up his fifth major victory last month at the PGA Championship, expect Koepka to be a favorite U.S. Open golf pick by many. The LIV golfer won back-to-back U.S. Open titles in 2017 and 2018.
LACC might not fit Koepka’s game like some of the other U.S. Open major venues, but there is a competitive edge that comes out of the 33-year-old whenever he tees it up at a major. He’s been too good with golf us open odds and these tournaments to not tail him this week.
Viktor Hovland (+1600)
Viktor Hovland is going to win a major in the near future, and it might come this week in Los Angeles. The pride of Norway locked up his fourth PGA Tour victory two weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament. Hovland was right there on Sunday at the PGA Championship as well, settling for a T2.
As one of our U.S. Open predictions, Hovland has played extremely well this season in major events, adding a T7 at Augusta earlier this year. Hovland ranks T7 in SG: Off the Tee and T10 in SG: Approach to Green, so the numbers back up the expectations for the 25-year-old.
Xander Schauffele (+1800)
The California-native is our final U.S. Open pick this week. You’d be hard-pressed to find another golfer in the world with the recent historical success that Schauffele has had at U.S. Open tournaments. He’s played in six U.S. Opens, finishing in the top 10 in five of them, with his best finish a T3 in 2019.
Xander’s game is trending leading up to this week’s tournament, finishing in the top 25 in his last eight events. The seven-time PGA Tour winner is aiming for his first major title, and there would be no better time than a victory in his home state.
