It has already been a great start to the year in the sport of horse racing, but things are going to heat up even more as the year moves along. The Kentucky Derby will be taking place next month, and that will kick off the push to the Triple Crown.
There are going to be a number of different ways to bet on each Triple Crown race, or you can also look at that event as a whole. Here are some of the betting odds that you will want to keep an eye on or take advantage of heading into the start of these races.
A Triple Crown Winner?
The last time that there was a Triple Crown winner was back in 2018 as Justify was able to get that done. There are some Triple Crown betting odds set for this year as well, and the odds suggest that no horse will be able to accomplish this feat.
Betting on a horse winning the Triple Crown is going to come with odds set at +1200, and there are some solid options out there. After a 2023 season plagued by pre-race injuries, athletes are finally heading into major competitions at full strength.
While that would be a nice payout if a horse was able to come up with three straight wins at Triple Crown races, it’s best to look at the other options as well. When making horse racing predictions for what will happen this year, the odds that there won’t be a Triple Crown winner are currently sitting at -2500.
Those odds will likely change depending on what horse comes up with a win at the Kentucky Derby as that could impact some things.
Odds to Win Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby, opening the Triple Crown schedule, now has its betting odds set by top offshore sportsbooks. It’s going to take some time before the entire field is revealed, but some of the early favorites are already posted.
Sierra Leone is the current betting favorite to win the Kentucky Derby as that horse currently has betting odds set at +300 to win that race. Those are some good odds, but you should also look at the entire field when making a bet on horse racing.
Fierceness is another horse to be in contention at the Kentucky Derby with odds at +375. Some questions are floating around about Fierceness, and it will be interesting to see if this horse can compete with the rest of the field.
There are currently betting odds for close to 30 different horses to win the Kentucky Derby and the field is going to be much smaller than that. The best course of action will be to wait for the announcement of the final field.
Horse | Odds to Win |
---|---|
Sierra Leone | +300 |
Fierceness | +375 |
Forever Young | +900 |
Catching Freedom | +1000 |
Just a Touch | +1700 |
Other Odds Coming
There are going to be some other big horse racing events that take place throughout the year, but everything starts with the Kentucky Derby. Odds to win the Preakness and Belmont Stakes can’t come out until the first Triple Crown race is run.
This will also be a good time to look at the Triple Crown odds more closely as the top horses are going to emerge from the rest of the pack. That doesn’t mean that different horses can’t win each race, but there will be more attention paid to the Kentucky Derby winner.
Now is when you will get the most value when making a bet on Triple Crown winner, but you could also be taking a big risk.
