The Milwaukee Brewers pay another visit to the New York Mets Wednesday, trying to kick start themselves out of their recent doldrums.
In the first of this three-game slate, the hosts came out on top by a 4-0 final. Between two teams who are either at the top or striving for it in MLB standings, this is one of the more intriguing MLB matchups.
The Brewers (34-29) have gone cold. They broke an eight-game losing skid on Sunday by keeping from being swept three series in a row. Still, though, they allowed St. Louis to overtake them in the National League Central.
New York (41-22) has the most wins in the NL and has won more home tilts (20) than any team in the Senior Circuit but the Cardinals. Winners of three of their last four outings, the Mets hold a five-game lead on streaking Atlanta.
New York leads the major leagues in terms of batting average. The team is hitting .265 collectively. The Mets have also plated more runs than anyone else.
Second baseman Jeff McNeil has a .321 batting average, which is currently the eighth-highest in the MLB. In three of his last four games, he’s had at least two knocks.
Designated hitter Pete Alonso has been a key part of the order, especially with his power. His 18 home runs pace the team and are the second-most in the bigs. As are his 59 RBIs.
Right fielder Starling Marte has a .282 mark the dish. Nearly a third of his 62 hits have gone for extra bases. He’s had multi-hit games three times in five performances.
Brewers at Mets Odds
Despite how things have gone for both groups as of late, MLB odds favor the Brewers on the road. Milwaukee is -1.5 on the run line at +134, while the Mets are -162 to cover the spread.
On the moneyline, the Brewers are -124 and New York a +106 underdog. The total has been set at 7.5 runs, with the over being -105 and the under -115 at the time of this writing.
Meanwhile, MLB betting trends look at the Brewers as an average offense, at least at the moment. Their leader in batting average is the first baseman Rowdy Tellez, who is hitting .248. Tellez also holds the team lead in RBIs with 38.
They have the second-most homers (80) in the NL. Seven different Brewers batters have belted at least six dingers. Each Tellez, shortstop Willy Adames, and right fielder Hunter Renfroe have ten or more.
Left fielder Christian Yelich has a .326 on-base percentage. He scored a run in every game over a four-day stretch last week. Over the losing streak they trudged through, the Brew Crew was beaten by at least four runs on a half-dozen occasions.

Brewers at Mets Betting Preview
Right-hander Corbin Burnes is set to make the start for the visiting squad. He’s had a great deal of success with punching challengers out, as his 92 strikeouts are the second-most in the majors.
His 2.48 ERA and 0.96 WHIP are both in elite company, but he’s been tagged with a loss the last two times he took the mound. The Brewers had come out on the right side of each of his last four outings in June.
Burnes is part of a staff that has the fourth-lowest ERA in the NL. The stable of arms also has also set down the most batters on strikes.
Competing for the Mets will be David Peterson, a southpaw with a 3-0 record. New York hasn’t been defeated in one of his starts since April. He is the owner of a 3.00 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.
Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets Picks and Predictions
With the Brewers’ hurler facing a powerful New York batting order, this is one of the more difficult MLB picks today. Burnes has had a rougher go of it recently, and it’s not a bad idea to trust the Mets’ hitters at home.
If you’re planning on betting on baseball today, go with New York to win outright.
