Looking at the Denver Nuggets stats
The Nuggets narrowly came away with a win against the Clippers on Sunday night despite Los Angeles playing without Paul George. Now Denver prepares for back-to-back games against the NBA’s best team in Golden State.
Denver’s main issue this season has been injuries. They have been without Michael Porter Jr. and Jamaal Murray, which has forced Nikola Jokic to carry the Nuggets on his back. Aaron Gordon is also questionable for Tuesday’s game.
The Nuggets have struggled to score points at a high level without those players in the rotation. However, Denver ranks inside the top ten in both assists and limiting turnovers on offense. If they can take care of the basketball while finding open teammates for quality shots, the Nuggets could pull off the road upset.
Jokic once again led Denver to the win over the Clippers on Sunday. The big man posted an incredible double-double with 26 points and 22 rebounds to go along with eight assists. Jokic has done everything for this team in 2021, and that is likely to continue on Tuesday.
Looking at the Golden State Warriors stats
The Warriors earned their biggest victory of the season on Saturday. Yes, it is early, and worrying about the standings in December may not seem all that important. But Golden State sent a lasting message to Phoenix with the win on the road.
Stephen Curry was amazing as usual, with 33 points on five three-pointers. Otto Porter Jr. hit three clutch three-pointers in a 19-point effort, while Draymond Green quietly was the x-factor yet again with 8 points, ten assists, eight rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
But the most encouraging statistic was the amount of turnovers they committed. Golden State ranks 28th in the NBA with 15.4 cough-ups per game. But they were able to reel it on Saturday with just nine total turnovers in the win over the Suns.
If the Warriors can continue to shoot the ball efficiently while taking care of the basketball, they will cruise to the best record in basketball. However, they will need to consistently display an ability to limit turnovers moving forward.
Nonetheless, the Warriors are playing good basketball and should be able to take care of business against Denver.
