Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Duke Blue Devils Betting Preview
Fighting Irish
Notre Dame Fighting Irish mens basketball is going to be making a coaching change at the end of this season, with long-time head coach Mike Brey moving on. Brey was an assistant coach at Duke in the 1990s, so his last trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium as an opposing coach could be an emotional one for him.
Notre Dame is likely not going to be among the March Madness picks unless it can make a miraculous run in the ACC Tournament. To do that, or have success in this game, it will need a big performance from 6-10 senior forward Nate Laszewski, who leads the team with 14.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Laszewski is shooting 42.7% from 3-point range this season, but he needs to be a presence in the paint against a tall Duke front line.
Senior guard Cormac Ryan can also get hot from the perimeter, as he’s shooting 38.2% from beyond the arc. Ryan is averaging 11.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 steals this season.
Blue Devils
As has been the case for much of this season, the Blue Devils have key players on the college basketball injury report. This time, it’s freshman center Kyle Filipowski, who is the team’s leading scorer (14.8 points) and rebounder (9.2) and one of the brightest of the first-year college basketball players in the country. Filipowski was scoreless in an overtime loss to Virginia on Saturday and hurt his ankle on the last play of regulation, putting his status for Tuesday’s game up in the air.
Junior guard Jeremy Roach is the only other double-figure scorer for the Blue Devils, averaging 12.6 points per game. Roach had 16 points in Saturday’s loss before fouling out of the contest and is averaging 16.7 points over the last four games.
The Duke Blue Devils schedule has them playing some of the NCAA basketball teams in the lower half of the ACC standings for much of the rest of the regular season, but they need as many wins as they can get. For once, the Blue Devils’ spot in the NCAA Tournament isn’t certain, so determining how to bet on the Notre Dame vs Duke odds must take their desperation into account.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Duke Blue Devils Betting Picks
The matchup between the Fighting Irish and the Blue Devils would usually be a highlight of the NCAAB schedule for a given day, but both teams have been struggling mightily. The Notre Dame vs Duke odds don’t give a very good shot for the visitors, but if Filipowski is unable to play, Notre Dame could hang in in this one.
If you’re betting on the point spread, take the underdog Irish to at least hang in on the road. Duke should win this game in a high-scoring affair, but it will be closer than 12 points. Take the over as well, as both teams can fill it up when they get it going.
