Arizona State Sun Devils vs BYU Cougars Betting Preview
Arizona State Preview:
Arizona State will go on the road in what is their toughest matchup so far this season against the BYU Cougars. The Sun Devils come into this game as 3.5 point favorites despite being on the road against a team coming off a really good win.
The Sun Devils find themselves in a conference that has been surprisingly solid as a whole. The Pac-12 has featured some quality wins in the early going, with the Oregon Ducks upsetting the Buckeyes of Ohio State and the UCLA Bruins are off to a hot 2-0 start but are coming off a bye week.
The Sun Devils are 2-0 on the season with less than stellar wins over Southern Utah and UNLV.
Arizona State has a strong defensive team, and that could cause some trouble for the Cougars. BYU is going to rely heavily on what they do best in order to come away with a win here.
They feature a quality running game, and while that might not be enough, Jaren Hall has been impressive and could be a factor through the air. This defense will be disruptive, though.
BYU Cougars Preview:
BYU is coming off a monster upset win, beating the No. 21 ranked team in the country in Utah. Quarterback Jaren Hall led his team to a 26-17 victory and will be looking to do the same against another Top 25 opponent this weekend.
Hall carried the ball eight times for 92 yards and threw for three touchdowns in their week two win. This has to bring some joy to the BYU faithful showing that life without Zach Wilson is going to be okay moving forward.
Wilson was the No. 2 pick in this year’s NFL draft, but the team continues to be impressive, and I would jump all over the opportunity to pick them coming away with a win in this game despite being underdogs at home.
Since the 2016 season, the Cougars are 22-10 at home. Arizona State is getting a little more love than needed in this game especially given the opponents they have faced.
No disrespect to UNLV and Southern Utah, but neither of these teams carry the same talent as BYU.
This team came to play against Utah, showing they are here to stay. This is one of the favorite picks to pull off an upset this weekend.
Jaren Hall has shown a lot of promise in the early going. It is expected that this team will perform better, and the offensive game plan will be enough to take advantage of the Sun Devils. The Sun Devils have a `solid defense, but the Cougars are loaded with talent and will look to add another quality win over a Top 25 matchup.
BYU vs Arizona State:
Meeting up on the football field used to be a consistent thing between these two NCAAF teams. They actually were conference opponents in the WAC up until the 1978 season.
Arizona State dominated these matchups, winning 11 of those 14 games. Once the Sun Devils joined the Pac-10, the two teams hadn’t met again until 1994. Between 94 and 98, the two teams faced off four times, splitting the series 2-2.
