Let’s see which team is the one who takes the win on this Blue Devils at Demon Deacons betting preview.
The Duke Blue Devils will travel to Truist Field on Saturday afternoon to take on the 13th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. This year, the Blue Devils are 3-4 (0-3) and are coming off a 48-0 road loss against the Virginia Cavaliers. Senior quarterback Gunnar Holmberg struggled as he went 20-of-34 for 134 yards with a pair of interceptions. The Demon Deacons are a perfect 7-0 (4-0) and are coming off a 70-56 road win over the Army Black Knights. Sophomore quarterback Sam Hartman had an incredible game as he went 23-of-29 for 458 yards with five touchdowns.
Durant Running Well
This season, the Duke Blue Devils are built to run the ball pretty well with senior running back Mataeo Durant. He has 166 attempts for 870 yards (5.2 yards per carrying) in his final season with nine rushing touchdowns. In his last game against the Virginia Cavaliers, Durant finished with 17 runs for 82 yards (4.8 yards per attempt) and five catches for as many yards.
The Duke Blue Devils are struggling a bit defensively this season as they are giving up 31.6 points per game. In their previous game against the Virginia Cavaliers, Duke allowed 48 points on 528 total yards of offense (364 passing, 164 rushings). The Cavaliers did not convert well as they went 3-of-11 on third-down attempts and averaged 5.0 yards per rushing attempt. If the Blue Devils can figure out how to improve defensively here, it will be a great shot for their program as a whole.
Roberson Dusting Defenders
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons love to throw the football, and junior wide receiver Jaquarii Roberson has been balling out. He has 39 receptions for 672 yards (17.2 yards per catch) for five touchdowns. In the last game against the Army Black Knights, Roberson finished with eight receptions for 157 yards (19.6 yards per catch) and three touchdowns. If Roberson can have that type of explosion again, Wake Forest would be thrilled.
This season, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have been a decent defensive program as they are allowing 26.3 points per game. In the previous game against the Army Black Knights, Wake Forest gave up 56 points on 5959 total yards of offense (179 passing, 416 rushings). The Demon Deacons have been doing well at forcing mistakes as Army had a pair of turnovers (one fumble recovery, one interception), but they also allowed the Black Knights to have the football for 42:43. If they can get closer to an evening out the time of possession, their defense will be a lot better.
Who to Bet on Blue Devils at Demon Deacons
Wake Forest is considered a heavy favorite at home, and for a good reason, they are undefeated up to this point. However, they are just 3-4 against the spread due to their defense. The Demon Deacons are scoring incredibly well as they are averaging 43.8 points per game in their last five outings. Duke is an inferior football program and will struggle to keep up offensively. All in all, go with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to win big and cover the lofty spread.
