Let’s see which team is the one who takes the win on this Rebels at Tigers betting preview.
The 10th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels will be traveling on Saturday night to take on the 18th-ranked Auburn Tigers in an SEC matchup played at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Rebels are 6-1 (3-1) and are coming off a 31-17 home win over the LSU Tigers. Junior quarterback Matt Corral had a great game as he went 18-of-23 for 185 yards and a touchdown. The Tigers are 5-2 (2-1) and are coming off a 38-23 road win over the 17th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. Junior quarterback Bo Nix finished going 21-of-26 for 292 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Banging the Drummond
The Ole Miss Rebels love to air the football out as senior wide receiver Dontario Drummond has played well. On the season, he has recorded 36 receptions for 619 yards (17.2 yards per catch) with six touchdowns and a pair of rushes for 16 yards (8.0 yards per carrying) with a rushing touchdown. In the last game against the Tigers, Drummond finished with eight catches for 93 yards (11.6 yards per reception). If he can figure out how to continue racking up yards, it will help Ole Miss.
The Ole Miss Rebels have been struggling with defense as they allow 28.3 points per game this season. In their previous game against the LSU Tigers, they gave up 17 points on 326 total yards of offense (249 passing, 77 rushings). LSU struggled to convert on money downs as they were 4-of-12 on third down and failed to convert on their only fourth-down attempt. The Rebels did a great job of stopping the run as they allowed 2.2 rushing yards per carrying. If Ole Miss can get some stops, they will be in a solid position to win here.
Ground and Pound
The Auburn Tigers like to have a solid running game to complement their offense, and sophomore running back Tank Bigsby has been doing well. On the season thus far, Bigsby has recorded 102 runs for 526 yards (5.2 yards per rush) with six touchdowns and eight receptions for 63 yards (7.9 yards per catch). In his last game against the Razorbacks, Bigsby had 18 attempts for 68 yards (3.8 yards per carrying) with a touchdown run and a 10-yard catch. If these Tigers can figure out how to hold up on the offensive line to open holes, it will be an excellent game for Tank.
This season, the Auburn Tigers have been a good defensive team as they are giving up 19.7 points per game. In their last game against the Arkansas Razorbacks, they allowed 23 points on 460 total yards of offense (228 passing, 232 rushings). The defense needs to step up as Arkansas went 10-of-19 on third down but failed to convert on each of their three fourth-down attempts. Auburn struggled to stop the run as they allowed 4.3 rushing yards per attempt. If the Tigers can defend better, they will be able to defeat a higher-ranked team.
How to Bet
These two programs are some of the more even teams on the college football slate this week. However, who can get the stops in this game? The Rebels are giving up 34 points in their last four games, while the Tigers allow 25 points in that same stretch. The Ole Miss Rebels are 1-6-1 against the spread in their previous eight games against the Auburn Tigers so go with the Tigers to cover a less than field goal spread.
