We are getting into Week 9 of the College football schedule, and the season has been as dynamic as ever. It’s here we look to the ACC for a sneakily important match-up between the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech taking on the Seminoles of Florida State.
Florida State is looking to bounce back from a string of tough losses, while Georgia Tech looks to further solidify its high spot in conference standings despite its overall record.
NCAAF Previous Scoreboards
Florida State is coming off of a bye week. Two weeks ago, Florida State suffered a 34-28 loss to Clemson Tigers at home.
After getting off to a quick 4-0 start, the Seminoles went on a 3-game losing streak before their break to put them at a 4-3 record with a 2-3 conference record coming into Saturday.
Georgia Tech is coming in off of their 9-16 loss to Virginia last week. They’ve had an up-and-down season finding themselves at 3-4.
However, with wins over Duke Blue Devils and Pitt the Yellow Jackets find themselves with a 2-2 conference record putting them second in the ACC Coastal currently when looking at college football standings.
Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Betting Analysis
Jordan Travis is poised to have a great game as the FSU QB is finding a lot of success through the air, while the pass defense is something that Georgia Tech struggles with.
At the same time, the Seminoles’ defense is having a harder time against the run, which is a major part of Georgia Tech’s game as they try to control the clock.
There is truly more nuance to some of the Georgia Tech vs Florida State betting picks than what may meet the eye.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is having a disappointing season so far. They are struggling to put points up on the board, averaging 2 TDs a game while allowing, on average, 3 TDs.
Yellow Jackets’ Struggle
Part of these struggles stems from their starting QB Jeff Sims who is questionable for Saturday’s game. The third-year sophomore has had issues his whole collegiate career with turning the ball over.
Coming into Saturday, his career TD-to-INT ratio is 30:23. Sims will have to avoid turning the ball over against a defense that doesn’t cause that many turnovers.
It may seem unfair to put so much pressure on Sims. However, as the QB and player with the most rushing attempts on the team, the whole offense revolves and relies on Sims and struggles to produce anything when Sims isn’t on the field.
Regardless if Sims can play, the defense will have to step up as they are allowing 392.6 yards a game, something FSU can and will take advantage of if given the opportunity.
Florida State Seminoles
Seminoles is finding success this year by utilizing a balanced offensive attack behind their QB Jordan Travis who is having a great season.
Florida State has found a built a solid group of guys running the rock. When looking at Florida State football team stats, they’re averaging 204 rushing yards a game.
Treshaun Ward is leading the way with 488 yards on the year, averaging 6.8 yards a carry. Trey Benson and Lawrence Toafili both also account for 240+ yards each on the ground.
Jordan Travis Analysis
Jordan Travis is having a breakout year in the fifth year. Junior has 1,661 passing yards and 222 rushing yards.
He’s thrown for 11 TDs and has gotten 2 more with his feet. Currently sitting with a 78.6 QBR, Jordan Travis sits with the 15th-best QBR in the NCAA.
However, consistency issues on offense have been leading to a tired defense to let up more points recently.
Updates
Both teams are coming into the game, for the most part, healthy. The major NCAAF injury that everyone is looking to is the whole Jeff Sims situation.
If he is ruled out, then Zach Gibson will step up into the leading spot. After playing the back half against Virginia, Gibson had gone 10 of 25 for 99 yards ending the night with a QBR of 7.5, which doesn’t necessarily induce confidence by any means whatsoever.
Florida State hopes to return Fabian Lovett back to the field on Saturday. Coming off the extra time to rest and heal definitely is viewed as a welcomed break for a Florida State team that hasn’t had the best of luck this year in the injury department.
Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Betting Preview

The Seminoles’ opening moneyline was -3224 to the Yellow Jackets’ +1250. When it comes to the spread, Georgia Tech is +23 underdogs.

Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Betting Prediction
I think the game is going to be closer than what the public thinks. However, that doesn’t mean I think you should go run and put money on the Yellow Jackets to cover in the Georgia Tech game today.
Who to Bet On?
Even if Jeff Sims were fully healthy, it would be a task to keep up with Florida State. Simply put, Sims just hasn’t had enough time to recover.
Not to mention the fact that Florida State has shown what they can do when they outclass their opponents (i.e., Boston College). My Georgia Tech vs Florida State betting picks are FSU -23
NCAAF Pick: Florida State -23.5 (-110)
