Kent State Travels to Iowa to Do Battle
The Kent State Golden Flashes have a test this week as they head on the road to face the #5 Iowa Hawkeyes. Kent State sits at 1-1, and their lone loss came to Top 10 Texas A&M. Iowa is coming off of great wins against both Indiana and Iowa State and have proven to be capable of handling anyone in the country this season. Iowa has had the toughest schedule in the country through two games, and it does ease up this week before Iowa gets back into Big Ten play in a few weeks. The Hawkeyes are favored in this one by 23 points, and the over/under is set at 56 points.
Golden Flashes Look for First Big Ten Win
Tulsa has never knocked off a Big Ten opponent, and they will have an uphill climb to do so this week. Iowa’s defense is very good, and Kent State’s offense has struggled at times with the ball. Dustin Crum is the man behind center for Kent State, and he has only thrown for 296 yards this season. He has thrown a touchdown and two interceptions so far this year. Look for Iowa to really key in on him, as their defense is excellent at stopping the pass. Kent State will need to play really solid on the offensive end in the passing game to have a shot this week.
Marquez Cooper is the Golden Flashes lead back, and he has run the ball 20 times for 161 yards this year. He is very consistent on the ground and should have more carries had Kent State not been playing catch up in one of their games this season. I look for Cooper to have a solid game against Iowa as their defense is going to come ready to defend the pass.
Iowa Will Look to Continue Streak
Iowa has been really hot as of late, with two big wins to start the year over Top 15 teams. Spencer Petras has improved into his sophomore season and has started the year really well. He’s thrown for 251 yards and a score, while Tyler Goodson has rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns. The defense for the Hawkeyes is really where their games are won or lost.
Iowa is only allowing 286 yards per game to two really good offenses. They are also only allowing 82 yards a game on the ground. This is what Iowa football is all about, and they play their strengths well. Look for Iowa to hold an opponent to under 25 points for the 25th straight game.
Iowa Will Run Away in the Game
Iowa is too strong on both sides of the field for Kent State. Iowa does not need to play their starters very long in the upcoming game, so I would take the under, and I would take Kent State to cover in the contest. Look for this one to be over early, and then Kent State gets a few scores late.
