Miami Hurricanes vs Appalachian State Mountaineers Betting Preview
The Appalachian State Mountaineers and Miami Hurricanes are meeting for the first time this season. Miami is coming off a blowout loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Mountaineers are coming off a win over East Carolina.
Appalachian State Mountaineers Preview: Upset on the horizon
The Mountaineers might just be the best team the Sun Belt conference has to offer. All the love for the mid-major is being spread around to Coastal Carolina and Louisiana, but quietly this team is underrated and could pull an upset off on the road.
Coming off a win against a very good offensive team in East Carolina that offers a ton of weapons, it didn’t faze Appalachian state at all. East Carolina threw the ball very well, but it was enough as the Mountaineers had a great offensive balance coming away with a 33-19 victory.
What stood out in this contest was the defense gave up just nine points until they started rotating guys in and out. A few late scores in the closing quarter helped make this game a little more respectable. The Mountaineer rushing attack was strong, and former transfer QB Chase Brice had a nice day in the air.
This team is going to run well as they had two 100 yards rushers in the opening week. Nate Noel and Cameron Peoples are going to be looking to do much of the same in this game as everything is there for a potential upset.
The Hurricanes are coming off a loss to the #1 team in the country in Alabama, and following this game, they are off to East Lansing to play the Michigan State Spartans. The Hurricanes are going to have to bring some of their best football and put the Bama loss behind them, or this game could be a problem, and the Mountaineers could be dancing on the road.
Miami Hurricanes Preview: Move on quick from Bama loss and regroup
Miami needs to take the Alabama game and move on quickly. I mean, Alabama it’s a storied program under head coach Nick Saban. They were expected to get walked off the field 44-13. The good news for the Canes is they are 9 point home favorites in this game, so they are expected to bounce back.
Back to the Canes, D’Eriq King played a pretty solid football game since returning from a knee injury a season ago. Yes, he threw two picks, but the offense was in hurry-up mode the majority of the game, fighting to get back into it. He was sharp on his 5-10 yard passes and even ran pretty well in scramble situations.
Despite giving up 44 points, the defense was pretty strong most of the game. It had ten tackles for a loss with its pressure and stood its ground against a tough Crimson Tide back field. Miami is still a very sound football team and has a shot at winning the ACC, but this is a game they can’t take lightly because the Mountaineers are tough.
You have to go all the way back to September of 2016 to see the first time these two football programs have met. Miami was the victor as they handled the Mountaineers with ease coming away with a 45-10 win for the first time in the program’s history.
