Let’s see which team is the one who takes the win on this Sooners at Wildcats betting pick.
Oklahoma tries to push their mark to 5-0 when they visit the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday. Things won’t be easy for the #4 Sooners as K-State has started the season 3-1 and are thus just +10.5 underdogs in this matchup.
This is a revenge game for OU, however, as the Wildcats scored a 38-35 win in week two last year as huge +28 point road underdogs.
Sooners Playing Angry
#3 Oklahoma’s national championship hopes were fizzled before they even started with the loss to Kansas State last season. It was actually the second straight year that an unranked KSU squad beat a top 5 OU team, with the Wildcats winning 48-41 at home in 2019 when the Sooners were #5.
Will things be different this year for Lincoln Riley’s team? They do have what they think is a potential Heisman contender in QB Spencer Rattler, who has thrown for 1,017 yards while completing 74% of his passes. Oklahoma has a couple of good backs, too, as both Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray are averaging over 5.0 ypc.
The Sooners still don’t look like their dominant self, though. They’ve merely survived the last two weeks, getting by Nebraska 23-16 and West Virginia 16-13, both in Norman. OU was a 2+ TD favorite in both of those contests. On the bright side, the defense does look good, holding Nebraska to 95 yards rushing on 38 carries and WVU to 68 yards on 28 runs.
Three In a Row for Wildcats?
K-State looks for an unprecedented 3rd straight win over a top 5 Oklahoma team. It’s possible that both teams were looking ahead to this contest, with the Sooners beating West Virginia by only a field goal last week and KSU getting upended 31-20 by Oklahoma State. The Wildcats had climbed to #25 in the country before the loss to the Cowboys.
Oklahoma State had 295 yards in the first half alone last week, so the Wildcats need to shore up their defense in getting ready for an explosive Oklahoma squad. K-State’s run defense got away from them last week, with Jaylen Warren running for 123 yards against them. This is a top 10 run defense in the country, holding Nevada to just 23 yards the week prior.
There’s also one huge absence as K-State goes for the three-peat over Oklahoma, and that’s Skylar Thompson doubtful with a knee injury. The Wildcat QB had 343 yards and a TD in last season’s game and ran for 4 TD in the 2019 meeting. K-State has struggled to replace him, with Jaren Lewis and Will Howard combining to go 14 of 31 last week with just 198 yards.
Oklahoma at Kansas State Pick
If Thompson plays in this game, it’s a different story, but Oklahoma has a lot of pent-up frustration that the Wildcats won’t have an answer for.
OSU had their breakout offensive game against Kansas State last week, and it’s time for OU to do the same on Saturday.
Oklahoma -10.5
