Let’s see which team will take the win on this Virginia at Louisville betting preview.
Louisville Cardinals Preview:
After a long two weeks spent on the road, the Cardinals will be excited about getting to return to Cardinal Stadium on Saturday Oct. 9th to take on the Virginia Cavaliers. Kickoff for this game is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN 2 network. Despite coming off a loss, the Cardinals find themselves as home favorites entering this contest at -3 point favorites.
As stated previously, the Cardinals suffered a very controversial loss in Winston-Salem against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this past weekend. This team will be looking for a quick bounce back against the Cavaliers to get back on track.
The Cardinals find themselves currently sitting at (3-2, 1-1) on the season. This team is headed home with a very salty taste in their mouth after a 37-34 defeat at Wake. The loss ended a three game win streak and while the controversial call is somewhat to blame, the Cardinals had ample opportunity to put this game away on many occasions.
The Cardinals are led by their dual threat quarterback Malik Cunningham. On the season, Cunnigham leads the team with 1,189 passing yards which is good for 64% at 103/162. He has thrown for seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He has done most of his damage on the ground rushing for 309 yards on 70 carries with 10 touchdowns.
Cardinal tailback Jalen Mitchell has rushed for a team high 331 yards this season on 77 carries. He has only one rushing touchdown but has been pretty strong through the air pulling in eight catches for 80 yards.
Virginia Cavaliers Preview:
Interestingly enough the Virginia Cavaliers came into this game as underdogs despite coming off a narrow win against the Miami Hurricanes 30-28 this past weekend. In the closing seconds of the game, Miami missed the go ahead field goal as time expired handing the Cavaliers their third win of the season.
This season has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride for the Cavaliers. They currently sit at (3-2, 1-1) overall in the ACC. This team opened up the year with back to back dominant wins over William & Mary and the Illinois Fighting Illini. Since those two wins they have been routed by the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Virginia is led by their quarterback Brennan Armstrong who has completed 145/224 passes this season that is good for 65%. Armstrong leads the team with 1,973 passing yards and has 14 touchdowns to go with four interceptions. His rushing game has been mediocre, carrying 44 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns on the year.
Lead rusher, Wayne Taulapapa has 28 carries and 143 rushing yards in the early going. He has only found the endzone twice but it has been a small sample size and this team clearly likes to throw the ball.
In the history of these two teams, Louisville holds a one game edge 5-4 in the head to head matchup. In their last meeting back on Nov. 14th, 2020 the Cavaliers came away with a 31-17 win.
