Let’s see which team is the one who takes the win on this Demon Deacons at Black Knights betting preview.
The 16th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons will travel to Michie Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on the Army Black Knights in an intra-divisional matchup. The Demon Deacons are a perfect 6-0 and are coming off a road 40-37 overtime win over the Syracuse Orange.
Sophomore Sam Hartman played a solid game as he went 19-of-32 for 330 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. The Black Knights are 4-2 this season and are coming off a 20-14 road loss to the Wisconsin Badgers.
Senior quarterback Jabari Laws will start as starter Christian Anderson is out for this game. He went 5-of-6 for 87 yards in the game.
Top Receiver in the League
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have been doing well in the passing game as they are throwing the ball to junior wide receiver Jaquarii Roberson this season. So far this year, he has 31 receptions for 515 yards (16.6 yards per catch) with a pair of touchdowns while also running two times for eight yards (4.0 yards per carry).
Roberson was extremely effective in the last game against the Syracuse Orange; he finished with nine catches for 135 yards (15 yards per reception). If he can have another incredible game here, it will really help the Demon Deacons remain undefeated.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have been doing very well defensively as they are giving up 21.3 points per game this year. Looking at their previous game against Syracuse Orange, they allowed 37 points on 514 total yards of offense (160 passing, 354 rushing).
They did decently well at forcing the punt team on the field, though, as the Orange went 7-of-15 on third down. They also struggled defending the ground game as Syracuse as they averaged 6.1 yards per carry. Wake Forest needs to step up if they want to have a better chance of dominating.
Alston Needs the Ball More
The Army Black Knights need to step up in the passing game, and having sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Alston could be a step in the right direction. So far this season, he has four catches for 109 yards (27.3 yards per reception) with a receiving touchdowns.
Looking at his last game against the Wisconsin Badgers, Alston finished with a reception for 34 yards. If he can figure out how to be more involved in the offense, it will be better to move the ball down the field.
The Army Black Knights defense has been doing well so far this season as they are allowing 20.7 points per game so far. Looking at their last game against the Wisconsin Badgers, they gave up 20 points on 310 total yards of offense (112 passing, 198 rushing).
The Black Knights have been dominant on third down as the Badgers were 3-of-10 on third down while allowing conversions on both attempts.
The Black Knights need to figure out how to improve defensively, as they allowed 4.6 rushing yards per attempt. If Army can figure out how to step up here as well, they have a good chance of getting back in the win column.
Who to Bet
This line is nowhere near where I was expecting as this game is floating around a field goal. Wake Forest is averaging 38.7 points while Army is scoring 31 points per game.
The Demon Deacons are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven October games and are coming off an emotional win. Army is on their backup quarterback, so they are going to be limited offensively. All in all, go with Wake Forest to cover the spread.
