The Detroit Lions will travel to Heinz Field on Sunday afternoon to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Week 10 matchup. The Lions are last in the NFC North with an 0-8 record and are coming off a 44-6 home loss against the Philadelphia Eagles before their bye week. Jared Goff went 25-of-34 for 222 yards.
The Steelers are second in the AFC North with a 5-3 record and are riding a four-game winning streak as they defeated the Chicago Bears 29-27 on Monday night. Ben Roethlisberger finished going 21-of-30 for 205 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
Lions at Steelers Betting Analysis
On the Detroit Lions side
Tight end T.J. Hockenson has been playing well this season as he has recorded 48 receptions on 64 targets for 448 yards (9.3 yards per reception) with a pair of touchdown receptions. In his last game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Hockenson finished with ten receptions on 11 targets for 89 yards (8.9 yards per catch).
The Detroit Lions have been struggling defensively this year as they are giving up 30.5 points per game. In their previous game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit allowed 44 points on 350 total yards of offense(114 passing, 236 rushing).
Detroit needs to defend the rush better as they let Philly run for 5.1 yards per attempt. The Lions also need to figure out how to get the football for a longer duration as they let the Eagles be on offense for 35 minutes.
On the Pittsburgh Steelers side
Rookie running back Najee Harris has been playing extremely well in his first handful of games in the NFL. So far this season, he has 150 carries for 541 yards (3.6 yards per carry) with four rushing touchdowns as well as 40 receptions for 289 yards (7.2 yards per catch) with a pair of receiving touchdowns. In his last game against the Bears, he finished with 22 rushes for 62 yards (2.8 yards per attempt) with a rushing touchdown and three receptions for 16 yards (5.3 yards per catch).
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a very good defensive team this season as they are allowing 21.1 points per game. In their previous game against the Chicago Bears, the Steelers gave up 27 points on 414 total yards of offense (278 passing, 136 rushing).
The Steelers cannot continue to give up 7.1 yards per play if they want to win games. They did, however, do solid on third down plays as they forced the Bears to go just 4-of-12 on them.
Detroit Lions at Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction
The top sportsbooks are making this a single-digit spread, which is a little weird to me. These teams are at two different levels this season as the Detroit Lions have not figured out a way to scratch across a win in eight games. Jared Goff has three touchdowns to four interceptions in his last five games, while Big Ben has six touchdowns without an interception in his previous four games.
This Detroit defense also does not have any answers for what Pittsburgh is able to do with Najee Harris, and Mike Tomlin is leaps and bounds a better NFL coach than kneecap-biting Dan Campbell. The Lions are a putrid 3-12-1 against the spread in their last 16 November games, so go with the Pittsburgh Steelers to cover the spread at home.
