Texans vs. Patriots Betting Preview
The Houston Texans saw a miserable 2022 season. Houston was not good on offense, defense, or special teams. Many would argue the Texans were not coached well, either. Regardless, they were the worst team in the AFC. Houston was 3-13-1 a season ago and was outscored by 131 points on the season. The Texans will look to make up a big chunk of that as they start the 2023 season.
Finishing at the bottom of the NFL Standings allowed the Houston Texans to grab the second overall pick in the draft and took Ohio State signal caller C.J. Stroud. Now, they go into the season with a new quarterback, a rookie quarterback.
Plenty of questions on what Stroud will do in this NFL game, but regardless the 6’3 athletic Stroud is going to have his hands full. Backing him up to start the season is Davis Mills, with Case Keenum to follow. Both those guys have NFL experience, but neither has had great success.
Dynamic Backup Trio
The Texans will look to Dameon Pierce in the run game, with Devin Singletary, Mike Boone, and Dare Ogunbowale to back him up. Nico Collins, Robert Woods, and John Metchie are the top receivers, but in this game, fans should get looks at guys like Noah Brown, Tank Dell, and Xavier Hutchinson. Houston used three quarterbacks a season ago and a combination of 5 running backs.
Houston, as the worst team in the league last season, should have one of the easier schedules, but road games in Baltimore and Jacksonville in the first three weeks do not give a ton of optimism about the Houston Texans Schedule being an advantage.
The Patriots’ Season of Redemption
Bill Belichick is back for another season as the head coach of the New England Patriots. The Patriots used their draft to grab defensive help. Marte Mapu, Keion White, and Christian Gonzalez were taking in the first three rounds, and all will be playing defense.
The depth chart on offense starts with Mac Jones under center but moves to Bailey Zappe, then Trace McSorley. Fourth on the roster is former Louisville star Malik Cunnigham. The Patriots added JuJu Smith-Schuster to the mix on the receiving sire, but guys like Kayshon Boutte, Demariou Douglas, and Tre Nixon will likely get looks here.
Many did not realize when looking at NFL player stats – Rhamondre Stevenson finished with over 1,000 yards on the ground a season ago. Now, he is the darling to be a great back this season. New England used 12 guys to gain yards on the ground a season ago.
Damien Harris is gone, which leaves guys like Pierre Strong Jr. and Kevin Harris to back up Stevenson. First on the New England Patriots’ schedule for 2023 is a home game against Philadelphia.
Texans vs. Patriots Betting Prediction
In the end, not sure that the Houston Texans are good enough to win games, despite it just being preseason. Sure, New England is not going to send their whole bag of tricks, but they are going to be ahead of the Texans in this game. Look for New England’s defense to be a step ahead and win this game.
- The betting prediction for this game is the New England Patriots 20-14 over the Houston Texans.
Our final Texans vs Patriots Betting Analysis: New England Patriots +105 and the under 38.5 on Thursday night.
