Let’s see which team takes the win on this Steelers at Packers betting pick.
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers return to Lambeau Field when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 4. The Steelers come into this matchup hobbled both physically and emotionally after two straight losses as favorites. GB, meanwhile, has turned things around for consecutive wins, and the -6.5 line for the Packers seems on the low side.
Pittsburgh a Longshot on Sunday
The Steelers haven’t done anything in the last two weeks that makes you think they can keep this game within a touchdown. Pittsburgh lost 26-17 at home to the Raiders in week 2 as Derek Carr threw for 382 yards. Then, last Sunday, Joe Burrow completed 14 of his 18 throws with 3 TD in a 24-10 Bengals win as the Steelers have dropped to 20th in the league in pass defense.
Struggling vs. the pass isn’t an ideal situation traveling to face Rodgers, Davante Adams, and the Green Bay offense. That’s especially true when the Pittsburgh defense is also fighting through injuries, with TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Carlos Davis all missing the Cincinnati game. Watt is probable for the Green Bay game, which would be a big plus.
Pittsburgh is also fighting through injuries on offense, with Ben Roethlisberger again going to try and play through a pectoral injury. Roethlisberger threw the ball 58 times last week against the Bengals as the Steelers called just 15 runs. This week, there will be struggles if that’s the game plan, as WR Chase Claypool is doubtful with a hamstring injury, and WR Juju Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson missed part of the game against Cincinnati.
Rodgers and Adams Heating Up
Pittsburgh’s offense is very one-dimensional coming into Sunday’s game at the same time Green Bay is starting to look in midseason form. Aaron Rodgers has thrown 6 TD to 0 INT the last two weeks after uncharacteristically tossing two picks in the season opener. Davante Adams has 8 catches for 121 yards and 12 receptions for 132 yards the last two weeks.
Green Bay had their first team rushing game of the season in Sunday night’s 30-28 comeback win over the 49ers, with Aaron Jones carrying the ball 19 times for 82 yards. That part of the Packers offense is still a work in progress, but it’s still better than the Steelers ranking last in the NFL with just 53 rush yards/game.
The Packers’ defense gets another confidence builder on Sunday vs. the banged-up Steelers offense. Green Bay got torched over the first six quarters of the season but shut out Detroit in the 2nd half in week two and held San Francisco to 67 yards rushing on Sunday night. The Packers also sacked Jimmy Garoppolo four times on Sunday night, and Roethlisberger has been hit the 5th most times in the league through three games.
Steelers at Packers Pick
This feels like a matchup of two teams on the opposite end of the spectrum heading into week 4. The Steelers are banged up regressing over the last two weeks while Green Bay is at home and building momentum for another deep playoff run. It would be a shock if the Packers didn’t win this contest by double digits.
Packers -6.5
