Islanders at Canucks Betting Analysis
New York Islanders Betting Analysis
The Islanders struggled to start the season, currently sitting in sixth place in the division. They are 27 points away from the Carolina Hurricanes, which at this point in the season, is almost an impossible number to catch.
Goal scoring has been the biggest issue for the Islanders this season. They are averaging just 2.36 goals per game, which is 30th in the NHL.
The one thing the Islanders do have going for them is that they are coming into this game at almost full strength. Kyle Palmieri is the lone player on their injured reserve list who is out with a positive COVID test.
Matthew Barzal is about the only Islanders player who is playing well for the Islanders. He has a team-high 28 points, scoring ten goals and assisting on 18 others.
Brock Nelson and Josh Bailey are the only two other players on the roster that have gotten to 20 total points.
Vancouver Canucks Betting Analysis
The Canucks ended the first half of the season playing solid hockey, winning three out of their last five games. One of the games they lost was in overtime, so they were still able to at least add a single point to their overall standings.
The Canucks are in a similar boat as the Islanders with their offense, scoring just 2.48 goals per game. In their last five games, however, they were able to up that to three goals per game in that sample size.
The Canucks are in a much worse spot with their injury report, as they have seven players listed, and none of them have the chance to play tonight. Quinn Hughes, one of the top offensive defensemen in the NHL with 34 points, is out with a positive COVID test.
J.T. Miller has been the offensive leader for the Canucks. He has a team-high 46 points, scoring 16 goals and assisting on 36 others.
Team Updates
While it is unknown what caused the COVID outbreak in Vancouver, they are currently dealing with three for sure positive tests. No, that is not an outrageous number, but it is one of the higher ones in the NHL and can make a team nervous about their future.
The Islanders just need to find a way to score goals. They are playing at full strength and could be in a favorable matchup for tonight’s contest.
- The Islanders won five of their last ten games before the All-Star break.
- New York was under the total points in seven of their last ten games.
- The Canucks won five of their last ten games.
- Vancouver was under the total goals in six of their last ten games.
Islanders at Canucks Betting Preview
Ilya Sorokin is the main goaltender for the Islanders. He has a record of 13-8-3 and is only giving up 2.31 goals per game.
Sorokin was 6-1 in his last seven starts heading to the All-Star break. If the Islanders can figure out their scoring situation, look out for them to make a run if Sorokin can keep up this level of play.
Thatcher Demko is the main goaltender for the Canucks. He has a record of 18-15-1 and is giving up 2.57 goals per game.
Demko allowed just a single goal last night to the Coyotes. If he gets the opportunity to play this evening, it should be another great opportunity for a win.
This game could easily be 0-0 at the end of regulation. Both teams have solid goaltending with lackluster offenses. Home ice may be the determining factor.
