The Madrid Open, also known as the Mutua Madrid Open for sponsorship purposes, is an outdoor clay court tournament held at the Park Manzanares in Madrid, Spain. The 22nd edition of the Masters 1000 event, which features 96 players, takes place from April 23 to May 5. As one of the signature tennis events of the season, it features almost all of the top players in the world, with the exception of Novak Djokovic, who was now withdrawn from a pair of 1000-level events this year.
While we check out the latest scores and odds, let’s take a look at the Mutua Madrid Open predictions for the two-week tournament.
Recent Winners
To start with the Madrid Open betting tips, it’s important to know how players have performed here in the past. Carlos Alcaraz is the two-time defending champion in Madrid, beating Jan-Lennard Struff and Alexander Zverev in the finals. Zverev, a two-time winner, won the Mutua Madrid Open in 2021 and 2018. Rafael Nadal, who is using a protected ranking to play in the tournament, won it five times, most recently in 2017.

Other Players to Know
Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev and 2024 Barcelona Open winner Casper Ruud are among the favorites in the Mutua Madrid Open betting preview, but there’s plenty of contenders even outside the top-16 seeds. In fact, the top-32 seeds receive a bye into the second round. Among those players are Chile Open winner Sebastian Baez, BMW Open winner Jan-Lennard Struff, Open Sud de France winner Alexander Bublik, and Nadal.
Nadal will draw the most fanfare of all players in the Mutua Madrid Open. Not only is he a five-time winner playing in his native country, but is gearing up to compete in the French Open for the first time in two years. He has played just two matches on clay court and nine overall in the last two seasons.
Who to Fade
Nadal is the most obvious player to fade in tennis odds for the Mutua Madrid Open predictions. He has rarely played since the start of the 2023 season and is only 3-2 in five matches this season, with his wins coming against lower-ranked players Flavio Cobolli, Dominic Thiem, and Jason Kubler. Nadal certainly has the ability and pedigree – he’s known as the “King of Clay” for a reason – but his injuries in recent years may be too much for him to overcome.
Alcaraz, who could be the “King of Clay” successor, is another player to avoid betting on this week. While he has strong tennis stats on clay, he has pulled out of two consecutive events due to a forearm injury and is a question mark to play this week. Even if he’s healthy, the value simply isn’t there to warrant a wager.
Best Value Picks
Sinner might be among the betting favorites to win the Madrid Open, but it’s a good value pick nonetheless. He is 25-2 this season and already has three titles, including the Australian Open and Miami Open, another 1000 Masters event.
Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud are also good bets for the Mutua Madrid Open predictions. Zverev is 19-7 this season but has yet to win a title, while Ruud broke through and won his first title of the season on Sunday in Barcelona. Ruud is one of the best clay court players on the ATP Tour and will undoubtedly be in contention during the second week of the tournament.
- Pick: Sinner to win.
