The Gonet Geneva Open bracket has yet to be released. But there’s plenty of excitement in Geneva as the ATP descends upon the Swiss city for an ATP 250 tournament at the Tennis Club de Genève at the Parc des Eaux-Vives. Thats the country’s largest and oldest tennis club.
Swiss player Stan Wawrinka, although not yet confirmed for this year’s event, should be granted a special exemption. He won the event in back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017.
Making Geneva Open predictions is a little tough at this point, with the draw yet to be announced. Moreover, several players who previously committed to the tournament are still in contention at the Italian Open. They may choose to skip the event to rest and prepare for the French Open. The second Grand Slam in the tennis schedule, at the end of May.
Confirmed Players Competing in Geneva
Casper Ruud
Norwegian Casper Ruud, one of the best clay court players in the world. He is the world’s No. 4 ranked player, and will likely have the shortest Gonet Geneva Open odds. Ruud won last year’s event with a finals victory over Joao Sousa.
It was his eighth ATP Tour trophy and his second consecutive win at the Geneva Open predictions. He’ll look to make it three in a row in 2023. Although he’s into the quarter-finals at the Italian Open and would probably skip the event if he were to win in Italy.
Taylor Fritz and Denis Shapovalov are the next two top-ranked players to have confirmed their entry for the Geneva Open predictions.
Taylor Fritz
Fritz, the world No. 10, would certainly be one of the leading Gonet Geneva Open best bets if Ruud doesn’t play. He lost his Round of 64 match at the Italian Open last Sunday. So, he is coming into the event well-rested.
Denis Shapovalov
Shapovalov, meanwhile, has had his play drop off considerably in the last year or so and is just 7-9 this season. He hasn’t advanced past the Round of 16 in a tournament since the ATP 250 event in Adelaide in January.
Nineteen of the top 69 players in the world are expected to play in the Gonet Geneva Open picks. Others who have confirmed entry include Botic van de Zandschulp (Netherlands), Ben Shelton (USA), Barnabe Zapata Miralles (Spain), and Yibing Wu (China).
Could Novak Djokovic Play?
Novak Djokovic is the best bet to win this year’s French Open. But he showed cracks in his impressive abilities on clay this week at the Italian Open. Djokovic lost to Holger Rune 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the quarter-finals in Rome. Had he won the tournament as expected, there was no way he would participate in Geneva, but now that seems like a possibility.
French publication RTS, prior to Djokovic’s loss on Wednesday. They reported that the 22-time Grand Slam winner regularly visits the Swiss region and that “he will probably have to stumble before the quarter-finals in Rome“ to sign up to play in Geneva. It’s a long shot, but he would instantly become a favorite in all tennis predictions.
7 Players Looking for Second ATP Tour Title This Year
Without Djokovic and/or Ruud, the door is wide open for one of six players to win their second title this season. Ruud won in Estoril and could add another in Rome. Fritz (Delray Beach), Tallon Griekspoor (Pune), Wu (Dallas), Nicolas Jarry (Santiago), Dusan Lajovic (Banja Luka), and Roberto Carballes Baena (Marrakech) all have one tournament victory this season.
Fritz, based on his ranking, would likely be the favorite to win his second tournament of the year. But Carballes Baena is another worthy contender. He’s at his best on clay, with a career-winning percentage of 62.73 percent.
