Current Squad / Roster

Cameroon is another African national team at Qatar’s 2022 FIFA World Cup. As there must be five African teams to participate in World Cup tournaments, Cameroon made it through alongside Morocco, Ghana, Tunisia, and Senegal.

Their last game against Algeria made the Cameroon national team qualify. They won the game 2-1 over Algeria but ended in a 2-2 draw on aggregate, and they advanced through with the away goal rule.

Cameroon’s national team has appeared at the World Cup eight times, higher than other African teams. They’ve been there in 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2014, and lately, at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Cameroon’s stats at the FIFA World Cup haven’t been too bad compared to other African teams.

However, they are in Group G of the FIFA Groups alongside Brazil, Serbia, and Switzerland. Let’s see what the Cameroonians will do in Qatar.

Cameroon FIFA World Cup Future Odds

Cameroon FIFA World Cup Odds of winning the title is +20000, which for me is high to beat, and to make it worse, they are in the 22nd position to win it. Having a team like Brazil, France, England, Spain, or Germany at the FIFA World Cup will be difficult for an African Team like Cameroon, for example, to win the title.

However, for Cameroon to equally win the FIFA Group stage is +1200 odds; being below the other three teams is also high. But if Cameroon can play with the same Spirit they played to qualify for the tournament; they can beat the odds to advance through the first phase.

FIFA World Cup Championships Cameroon's Record

Historical Events

Cameron is one of the strongest teams in Africa, and their popular sport is football. As said earlier, they have participated in the World Cup more than any other African team. They’ve won the African Cup of Nations trophy four times.

Cameroon organized the African Cup of Nations in 1972, and Congo won the trophy. Then, Congo was a single Country.

Except for the 2018 World Cup disappointment, the USA has an excellent record of qualifying for the showpiece event on the soccer calendar. USA stats show that they have qualified for seven of the previous eight World Cups, and has successfully managed to qualify for the knockout stage on four occasions.

During this run, they have been eliminated at the round of 16 on three occasions, including in back-to-back tournaments in 2010 and 2014. However, conceding goals has been a big issue in the previous two World Cups that they have qualified for, as they allowed six goals in 2014, and five goals in 2010. The USA’s best showing came as they finished third in 1930, while their run to the quarterfinals in the 2002 World Cup remains their best modern-day effort.

Cameroon has had many players since they began playing football at their national level. One is Roger Milia, who won the Bronze boot in 1990. He was the oldest then; to date, he is still Cameroon’s top goalscorer.

At 42, Roger Milia was the oldest player to appear in a World Cup finals, which was at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. However, other historical Cameroon players include Francois Omam-Biyik, Rigobert Song, Stephen Tataw, Thomas N’Kono, Samuel Eto’o, Emmanuel Kunde, and so on.

Cameroon’s fun facts in the previous World Cups

One of Cameroon’s facts was over fifteen years ago when the Indomitable Lions was at the 2000 Sydney. They won games that dispatched Spain and Brazil to win the gold medal. Also, they are the first African team to reach the Quarter-final stage of the World Cup tournaments. Let’s see how they’ll fare at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Team Squad for the 2022 World Cup

Expected FIFA World Cup Team Roster

Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song has set up a team already ahead of the tournament. He was so happy with his team and thanked them for their Victory over Algeria to qualify for the tournament. So there is no doubt he won’t be using the same team again.

FIFA should still expect the same team Cameroon’s head coach used when they played their qualifying stage, and this time, the team will put more effort and show that they are still one of the best national teams in Africa.

World Cup Schedule

Cameroon’s FIFA World Cup schedule starts in Group G, and their first match will be on the 24th of November against the Switzerland team. Their second game in the tournament’s first phase is against Serbia, which will be held on the 28th of November 2022.

Lastly, they will face the Brazil national team for their last FIFA Group match. Beating a team like Brazil will be tough because they are the only team who has won the most World Cup titles in the history of the tournament and is currently a top-five contender to get the 2022 FIFA World cup. Cameroon needs to win two games to advance to the next phase.

  • November 24 – Switzerland vs. Cameroon
  • November 28 – Cameroon vs. Serbia
  • November 2 – Cameroon vs. Brazil
