Udinese has been around since the late 1800s, and is one of the legacy clubs of Italian soccer. While Serie A odds do not encourage doing any Udinese betting for the league title anytime soon, they have been a fixture in the top league in Italy for a long time. Here, we look at the rich history of this club and look at the Udinese stats that this team has produced over the course of over 100 years.

Udinese General info

Udinese is a team that is located in the city of Udine, which resides in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. That region is in the Northeast corner of Italy, with Udinese’s Stadio Friuli being located there. That venue holds just over 25,000 fans, and is the site of all home matches on the Udinese schedule, including their Serie A matchups.

Udinese History

Udinese was founded in 1896, and they have spent the majority of their time in professional soccer in Serie A. Their Serie A betting stats have been something of a mixed bag, as they have been everything but a bottom-tier team to a team that has finished in the top three in the league. Overall, though, they have done a great job of staying in the Italian top flight, as they have not been in Serie B since 1995.

Udinese Records

While Udinese is not one of the truly prestigious clubs in Italian soccer, their record books still have some recognizable names on them. Looking at the all-time Udinese stats leaders, Italian great Antonio Di Natale is the all-time leader in appearances for the club at 445 appearances. He and Valerio Bertotto are the only two players to log 400 or more appearances for the club.

Di Natale is also by far the most prolific scorer in Udinese history, as he scored 227 goals during his time on the team. No other player in Udinese history has logged 100 or more goals as a member of the club. Di Natale’s goal-scoring record for Udinese does not appear to be in danger anytime soon, as no active player at Udinese has more than 30 career goals there.

Championship won by Udinese

Udinese has yet to finish at the top of the Serie A standings in their history just yet. But they have won the Serie B title on three occasions, with the most recent of those championships coming in the 1978-79 season. Those titles, while not as prestigious as the Serie A title, did earn the club promotion back into the top division in Italian soccer each time.

Historical Events

In terms of notable events in the history of Udinese, their run in the 2008-09 Europa League was something to remember. They made it to the quarterfinal round of that competition, beating clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur early in the competition to reach the knockout rounds. That was by far their best performance in a European competition.

There are no truly high-profile options when crowning the best manager in Udinese history. But there is an argument to be made that Luciano Spalletti is deserving of that honor. He was at the helm when the club qualified for the Champions League with their fourth-place finish in the 2004-05 season, though Francesco Guidolin securing three straight top-five finishes from 2010 to 2013 is also deserving of consideration.
