The 2022 Men’s Volleyball Nations League has begun, and all countries involved are ready to roll. There are 16 different countries competing, but Italy and Japan are where all eyes will be on the action on Friday morning. The United States is the lone undefeated team, but Italy and Japan are creeping at their coattails. Check the Japan vs. Italy Betting Analysis below.
The focus for all volleyball fans worldwide should be on this battle between Italy and Japan. Both teams have one goal in mind; win and cut the deficit at the top of the standings. The 2022 VNL is the fourth edition of the league and looks to be the best one ever, especially for those betting on the games.
Last game records
Both Italy and Japan are two of the best teams competing in the Volleyball Nations League this year. They sit at 4-1 a piece with identical records, but Japan is No. 2 in the rankings (behind the United States), while Italy is No. 5 (behind the United States, Japan, France and Poland).
Italy’s lone loss came against the No. 3 team France on June 8 in three sets, while Japan’s only loss on the season came in a thrilling three sets to two victory by the Americans. Japan has four wins and 13 points, as Italy has four wins but only 12 points. One point separates these two in the standings.
Matchup Information
Set your alarms, Japan vs. Italy will be taking place Friday, June 25 at 3:00 AM EST. It will be early, but a great game as they play in Quezon City, Philippines. It is week two of pull three between these top five teams.
Japan vs. Italy Betting Analysis
As Japan takes on Italy, this matchup between the European and Asian nations could go either way. They both sit at 4-1 and are both red hot as they play their sixth games of the summer. Italy has not lost since France defeated them in their first set of the year and Japan narrowly lost to the best team in the VNL over two weeks ago. Both are playing their best volleyball entering Friday morning’s match.
Italy’s biggest win came against one of the top teams Poland, and Japan continues to win but does not have a defining win this season. The story of this game will be to see if Japan can finally get that victory over a top-five team. In the past seasons, both countries have finished near the middle of the pack, but are looking to prove themselves in 2022. Italy has a huge win, and Japan continues to dominate the lower end of the standings.
Japan Content
Often called one of the most disciplined teams in the VNL, Japan may not stun you with their volleyball stats like the flashy teams, but they get the job done. Their best finish in the league was in 2019 when they finished 10th, but they currently sit in second place and look to change the narrative that Japan is not a volleyball country.
If you are unfamiliar with Yuji Nishida you are definitely missing out on a superstar volleyball player. Nishida, the opposite spiker is easily the MVP of this Japanese team, and one of the top players with the best volleyball stats in the entire league. He has 93 total points, 76 attack points, five block points and 12 service points. Remember the name Nishida, as he will be key in the set against Italy.
Italy Content
Italy is a lot different from teams like Japan and the United States in this league; they do not have a star player who can put the team on their back and carry them to a win. It is a team effort, and they lack a superstar.
Very few of their players dominate the stat sheets, but players like Romano Yuri with 53 attack points, and Mattia Bottolo with 39 attack points and seven service points will need to step up against Japan.
Updates
We have some great news for people betting on Italy. They are not the same team they used to be, and they are going to get a lot better. Their younger roster played very well only losing one set, but the stars are back and this team is a lot better. Lavia, Michieletto, Balaso and Anzani are here for Italy, combined with their current roster, and Japan the rest of the VNL may be in trouble.
Nothing new coming out of the side of Japan. They are sticking with their guns and ready to take on the new and improved team from Italy.
