The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2022 Summer kicks off on Friday, June 17, with the first set of games. And even though we will see five pairs of matches played on the day, the clash between 100 Thieves and TSM is certainly the most interesting one. Check the 100 Thieves vs. TSM Betting Analysis below.
As the former champions, 100 Thieves have proven that they can still be competitive in the league, whereas TSM is coming into LCS 2022 Summer following the worst split in the organization’s history. However, with the roster changes TSM have made this offseason, there is some optimism in the camp of the seven-time LCS champions as they start the climb up the North American ladder.
Last game records
Since this is the first match of the LCS 2022 Summer, we can analyze no recent games of the teams to make our League of Legends betting picks. To find 100 Theves’ last game, we have to go back to the LCS 2022 Spring Playoffs, where the Houston Rockets-owned squad did surprisingly well.
They first eliminated Cloud9 from the upper bracket with a 3-0 sweep, picked up a closely-fought and somewhat underserved victory over Team Liquid (3-2), but fell apart in the finals, where 100 Thieves lost against Evil Geniuses (0-3), who picked up their first LCS trophy.
For TSM’s last match, we have to travel way back to LCS 2022 Spring regular season, in which the team finished second-to-last with a 5-13 record. However, they have done relatively well in the final two weeks, picking up wins against Cloud9, Immortals, and CLG, yet were inefficient against 100 Thieves and Team Liquid.
Still, with the new meta and all the roster changes, putting too much weight on past results hardly helps us on our journey of League of Legends betting journey.
100 Thieves vs. TSM Betting Analysis
As the latest League of Legends betting odds show, 100T are favored to win, which is fair. They’re individually stronger than TSM and will likely be far more stable due to not making any roster changes.
At the same time, we have to consider that the recent patch completely changed how the game is played, so it will be interesting to see how the meta develops in the LCS.
100 Thieves
100 Thieves did well last split and nearly defended their title, but they were no match for Evil Geniuses, who demolished them in the finals. Still, it was a solid season for a team that League of Legends betting odds showed as the fourth-favorites to come out on top.
The team as a whole has excellent players with no apparent weaknesses, but if we had to pick one player that is a bit overrated, it’s Ian Victor “FBI” Huang. But that’s because people see him as one of the top-two ADCs in the league, while he is likely third or fourth.
Overall, 100 Thieves are a solid team and easily one of the favorites to win the league. They might not be as solid as Evil Geniuses or Team Liquid, but 100T are up there and could potentially win the trophy if things fall into place.
TSM
TSM have made quite a few roster changes since the 2022 season began, and the most recent was the addition of Huang “Maple” Yi-Tang as the new mid laner. We still don’t know who will start for TSM as support, but currently, the team still lists Wei “Shenyi” Zi-Jie as their starting player even though that could change.
Looking at the roster, TSM still fields some talent, but nothing exceptional. The top side should be OK, but I wouldn’t expect Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon to carry the team to the promised land. Mingyi “Spica” Lu is a great jungler, but elsewhere, TSM are lacking.
Maple seems like a solid acquisition, but it’s hard to expect him to emerge as one of the top mid laners in the league – maybe top-5.
Updates
Besides the aforementioned roster changes TSM have made, nothing has changed in the lead-up to the season-opening game. It’s still uncertain who TSM will field as their starting support, but realistically it shouldn’t matter too much whether they chose Shenyi or not.
100 Thieves vs. TSM Betting Preview
The opening games of a new split are notoriously hard to predict. That is both because often, teams enter the new split with a new roster and players who we don’t know how good they’ll be. Although this holds true to some degree with this match – due to the addition of Maple – it’s the new meta that brings up way more questions.
The game has changed drastically over the offseason, and from what we could see from other leagues, teams that prefer scaling should do well in contrast to those who prioritized early-game aggression. On that note, TSM might do better in the current meta, but then there’s also the question of individual quality.
100 Thieves vs. TSM Betting Prediction
100 Thieves are undeniably more talented than TSM and have a significantly better chance to win the league. This also explains why TSM are priced as +200 underdogs for this match, which is hard to argue with.
At the same time, we don’t know whether 100 Thieves will play as well as we expect from them from the get-go- Likely, they will need some time to adapt to the new meta, which should result in a couple of shaky showings over the first two weeks.
How to bet on 100 Thieves vs. TSM
If you’re betting on esports, it might be appealing to back TSM to defeat 100T since something will have to go terribly wrong for that to happen. However, a bet on TSM with a +6.5 kill handicap is worth a look.
As seen in other leagues, the current LoL games are mostly low-scoring, and the games are pretty slow until the late game, where a single fight can decide the match. So as long as TSM don’t fall apart early, they should keep it within six kills.
Prediction: TSM +6.5 kills
