The Triple Crown series in the U.S. has just one leg left to run, with the Belmont Stakes being staged on Saturday, June 10. It will be a completely new test to the field of horses aged three. They will compete over a distance of 1.5 miles for the first time in their career.
There will be no Triple Crown winner this year after Mage could only take third in the Preakness Stakes. But, there will still be huge engagement when it comes to making a bet on horse racing when the Belmont Stakes odds are released.

Belmont Stakes Betting Trends
One of the key factors to consider when assessing the contenders are the trends. In this section of the Belmont Stakes betting preview, we will go through some of the key factors to consider before making your wager on the race at Belmont Park.
- Only three runners from the Preakness Stakes have won the Belmont Stakes since 2010.
- Twelve of the previous 15 winners of the Belmont Stakes have come into the race after a four-week layoff.
- Eleven of the last 22 winners have had previous Belmont Park experience.
- But, the Peter Pan Stakes has produced just two wins in the race since 1987.
- Six winning favorites of the Belmont Stakes since 1996.
Belmont Stakes 2023 Contenders
Forte
The buzz horse in the lead up to the Kentucky Derby looks set to make his return to the track at Belmont Park. Forte was the pre-race favorite at Churchill Downs, before being forced to pull out on medical advice. But, he remains among the most exciting contenders in this Belmont Stakes betting preview.
The three-year-old was also then forced to bypass the Preakness. Forte will represent last year’s winning connections of Irad Ortiz and Todd Pletcher. And could be challenging to overlook if at the same level that saw him secure a speed rating of 102 when winning the G1 Florida Derby in April.
Arabian Lion
Bob Baffert has only landed three victories in the Belmont Stakes. But he could have as many as three runners in the race this year. National Treasure will certainly capture the attention after winning the Preakness Stakes. But there is a huge argument to be made that Arabian Lion would have won the middle crown race if connections opted for that target.
The three-year-old has been somewhat of an enigma throughout his career. But he finally delivered a performance that many believed he was capable of on the Preakness undercard. Arabian Lion landed the Sir Barton Stakes over 1 1/16 miles by four lengths, and will certainly capture the attention in the market for the Belmont, given his sire, Justify, won this in 2018.
Angel of Empire
A number of Derby runners could be among the likely runners in the Belmont, but the one that looks tailor-made for this extended distance is Angel of Empire. Brad Cox previously won the Belmont Stakes in 2021 with Essential Quality. And this three-year-old certainly appears to be the progressive sort that could thrive over 1.5 miles.
Angel of Empire ran a storming race to finish third in the Kentucky Derby, reaching a career-best speed figure of 104. He also comes to Belmont Park, having landed victories in the G2 Risen Star and G1 Arkansas Derby.
Belmont Stakes Betting Prediction
It will be a competitive edition of the race this year, and there are likely to be outside selections available in the betting not covered in this Belmont Stakes betting preview.
Forte will take a lot of money, given he will be among the prominent Belmont Stakes predictions, but there could be excellent value in siding with Angel of Empire. Brad Cox knows how to win this race, and he certainly appears to be the runner that has come on the most since the Triple Crown series has got underway.
- Pick: Angel of Empire
