The first weekend of the MLB season is now complete, and it’s been an interesting start for some teams. Most MLB teams still have more than 158 games to play, and there is still a ton of time for things to shake out as the season moves along.
Now is a great time to look back at the weekend that was, and build a National League power ranking. These teams are likely going to be moving around throughout the year, but some teams aren’t going to move groups often.
Odds to Win the National League
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Los Angeles Dodgers | +175 |
Atlanta Braves | +225 |
Philadelphia Phillies | +800 |
Arizona Diamondbacks | +1600 |
Chicago Cubs | +1800 |
St Louis Cardinals | +1800 |
Cincinnati Reds | +2000 |
Teams Playing Well
When it comes to putting together a National League power ranking, it’s best to start with the teams at top. This is where you are going to find the teams to include in MLB picks and parlays, especially at the start of the season.
2. Atlanta Braves
3. Milwaukee Brewers
4. Arizona Diamondbacks
5. Pittsburgh Pirates
The best team in the MLB is likely the Los Angeles Dodgers currently at 4-2 through the first six games. The Dodgers are absolutely loaded on offense, but they don’t always have the pitching to match.
Atlanta is another team that you will want to include in MLB best bets throughout the year, as that team is loaded with talent as well. At some point, they will likely be on top of the MLB weekly power rankings as they are good enough to go on a big run.
The other three teams are off to a great start to the season, but they are not going to be confused with being a great team.
More to Prove
7. Cincinnati Reds
8. Philadelphia Phillies
9. Chicago Cubs
10. San Francisco Giants
11. St. Louis Cardinals
It’s really hard to put together MLB power rankings this week as most teams have played just three or four games. The teams in this group could all move up or down as the season moves along, and more time is needed to figure things out.
The San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds look like the best teams in this group, but they didn’t exactly dominate their opponents throughout the first week of the season. When looking at the MLB schedule today, these are going to be the teams to keep an eye on.
Things didn’t go well at all for the Cardinals, but they were also dealing with the Dodgers in LA. At some point, the Cardinals are going to play some weaker teams at home, and that should be easier to figure out how well they are playing.
Long Year Coming
13. New York Mets
14. Miami Marlins
15. Colorado Rockies
A complete National League power ranking is going to take a look at every team, and some teams will struggle. At this point, it looks like four teams are going to really struggle this season, and that was the case in the first series of the season.
When looking at MLB games today, these are the four teams that you are going to want to target when looking for teams to fade. The Rockies looked like one of the worst teams in the first weekend as they were blasted by the Diamondbacks.
The New York Mets struggled in a big way to begin the year as they were swept at home by the Milwaukee Brewers. New York is not one of the worst teams this season, but it looks that way to begin the year.
