Formula 1’s summer break is iconic. Each year all teams take a 14-day break from racing and operations to relax, get away from the competition, and enjoy time with their families and friends.
That break has officially come to an end, and the season will resume this weekend, August 26th-28th, in Belgium.
Max Verstappen currently leads the Championship by 80 points, with Charles Leclerc behind him. Read below for GP Belgium betting pick and predictions.
Drivers that Lead the Oddsboard
This race is going to be exciting because of all the changes teams may have made since the break. Here are my top three F1 betting picks for the Belgian GP.
Lewis Hamilton to Podium (-120)
Lewis Hamilton looked like he was on track to have a career-worst year, but in the last five races, the 8-time world champion and his team have looked fantastic. Lewis has five straight top-three finishes but is still looking for his first victory of the season.
Hamilton has won four times at Spa, the most of any driver, and I expect him to finish on the podium because of how well he knows this track.
Max Verstappen to Win (-120)
Anytime I can bet on Max Verstappen at less than -200, I take it. F1 odds currently favor Verstappen as a -120 favorite, while Leclerc is a +350 underdog.
The Dutch driver has a safe 80-point lead on his rival Charles Leclerc and has won 8 races this season. He’ll be looking to dominate this race from start to finish and extend that championship lead.
Seven of Max’s eight wins have come in the past 10 races, showing just how dominant he has been since the third race of the year. This is definitely my favorite GP Belgium betting pick and prediction.
Daniel Ricciardo Top 10 Finish (+100)
Daniel Ricciardo is the only race winner Mclaren has had in the past ten years. Despite that, the team could not come to an agreement with Ricciardo about his future, and they have decided to part ways at the end of the season.
Ricciardo is a good driver, and I expect him to use this as motivation. I believe he’ll have a great race in Belgium, a race he’s won before, and will score points for his team despite their decision.
F1 odds currently have Ricciardo as +100 to score points, +5000 to podium, and +50000 to win.
Formula One Race and Betting Trends
- Lando Norris top 10 finish (-300)
Lando has finished in the top ten, ten times this season and has four straight top ten finishes.
Norris is now the only driver returning to Mclaren next year, and will have his full team’s support behind him. I expect him to continue that streak this weekend in Belgium.
- Fernando Alonso top 6 finish (+125)
The Spanish veteran has been on the cusp of the top six recently, taking 8th place in the last race, but has two top 6’s in the three races prior. Alonso’s experience and skill will benefit him, and I believe he’ll break through again in Belgium.
- Lewis Hamilton to Podium (-120)
Lewis is the best driver in Formula 1 history and has won at this track more times than anyone else. I will not be surprised if he looks fantastic this weekend and finishes in the top 3.
If he does, it will be his sixth race in a row on the podium.
- Mick Schumacher top 10 finish (+200)
Schumacher has two top 10 finishes in his past four races. The young German is skilled and aggressive, as well as fun to watch. This is a really fun underdog bet if you’re looking for one.
- Max Verstappen to win (-120)
Verstappen is the best in the world right now, coming off of two straight victories, and has dominated the whole season.
He sits 80 points ahead of the field and arguably has the best car underneath him. I’ll take the reigning champ at -120 any weekend.
Belgian Grand Prix Betting Pick and Prediction
My Formula 1 betting picks and predictions is Lewis Hamilton to podium at -120. Hamilton is the best driver in the history of this sport, and arguably is still the best driver on the track, despite the car that is underneath him this season.
Hamilton has bounced back from a horrendous start to the year and is currently only 32 points behind second place in the individual standings.
Lewis has the skills, the determination, and now it seems the car, to win a race this year. Mercedes has improved the car tremendously since the start of the year, and Lewis has five straight podium finishes.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Lewis ends up winning a race before the 2022 season ends. For now, though, I’ll take him to finish on the podium for the sixth time in a row at -120.
F1 Pick: Lewis (-120)
