Alex Palou
While his streak of three consecutive race wins ended in Canada, Palou has still won four of the last six races and has six podiums on the season. Palou holds a 117-point lead over in the Drivers’ standings, having finished in the top five in the last nine races.
In the two oval track races this season, Palou has two top-five finishes, finishing fourth in the Indy 500 and third in Texas.
Josef Newgarden
Josef Newgarden is a must-pick to finish in the top five in both races in Iowa. Newgarden is third in the Drivers’ standings but only has four top-five finishes this season.
However, it’s Newgarden’s record in ovals this season that makes him a favorite to win in Iowa and potentially in both races: Newgard won both the Indy 500 and the PPG 375 in Texas.
Pato O’Ward
Pato O’Ward won the Sunday Iowa race in 2022 and has five top-ten finishes this season, four of which were podium finishes. O’Ward finished fifth in the Indy 500 “Fast Twelve” but finished 24th.
However, O’Ward finished second at Texas and could take home his first race win in 2023, considering his strength on ovals.
Marcus Ericsson
Marcus Ericsson had finished in the top ten in the first eight races of the season, with three podium finishes as his only top-five finishes. Ericsson has finished out of the top ten in the last two races but finished second at Indy and eighth in Texas.
