The 2024 NCAA Tournament is now complete, and the UConn Huskies were able to win back-to-back national championships. UConn not only won another title, but they did so by having an average margin of victory of more than 23 points during this run.
This version of the NCAA Tournament was a bit different than some previous years as there weren’t really any big moments. March is typically known for Madness, but that wasn’t the case during the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Now that the tournament is over, it’s time to look back and reflect on the March Madness Frenzy Recap, while also starting to put together some predictions for the future.
UConn Was Too Good
When putting together a March Madness betting guide for the 2024 NCAA Tournament, the UConn Huskies were the betting favorites to cut down the nets. There was even a question as to whether or not taking the Huskies or the field was going to be the best betting option.
Even though there was more value in betting on another school to win the NCAA Tournament, it was UConn that simply dominated this event from start to finish. The Purdue Boilermakers did enter the tournament with the second-best college basketball odds, and they looked impressive up until the final game of the season.
UConn might have been the clear favorites to win the national championship, but there were other betting opportunities out there. Taking UConn or Alabama to get to the Final Four would have been a nice payout, and that’s always something to explore.
The Huskies have now won two championships in a row, and they are the first to accomplish that feat since the Florida Gators back in 2006 and 2007.
So Much For Parity
When looking for March Madness betting trends, it’s typically wise to bet on some underdogs to come up with big upsets in the first two rounds. While there were a couple of big surprises right away, all eight of the number 1 and two seeds were able to advance to the Sweet 16.
This is not something that typically happens, but it shows that the best college basketball programs are simply getting the best players. NIL and the transfer portal have created some serious issues in the sport, but it appears that the best players are always going to end up on the top teams in the sport.
The N.C. State Wolfpack did get to the Final Four as a number 11 seed, and that continued the trend of underdog conference tournament champions going on a run in March. It seemed impossible that N.C. State was going to be able to get to the Final Four, but they used the momentum from the ACC Tournament to get there.
A Look Ahead
While the 2023-24 season may have just concluded with a thrilling March Madness Frenzy, future betting odds for the 2024-25 national championship are already available. UConn was a big favorite when the 2023-24 odds were first posted, and that would have been the best time to get a wager put in.
The Huskies actually aren’t the betting favorite to win the title next season, but they still have some great odds set at +1200. It’s not easy to win two titles in a row, but going and winning three in a row is nearly unheard of.
It is the Duke Blue Devils that are currently favored to cut down the nets, and that team has betting odds set at +1000. Duke boasts the top recruiting class, and oddsmakers believe this youthful squad has the potential to overcome inexperience and succeed.
North Carolina and Kansas are both near the top as well, giving you plenty of options to make a future bet.
