The Kentucky Wildcats came up with a big-time upset in Week 5 of college football, stealing a game from the Florida Gators. On the other end, the LSU Tigers are coming off an upsetting loss to one of their rivals in the Auburn Tigers. Kentucky will host the (3-2) LSU at Kroger Field in Lexington, KY. The kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
LSU Tigers Betting Preview
LSU has really struggled since the departure of Joe Burrow in 2019, and this season has not been much different. The Tigers have gone 3-2 this season with losses to Auburn and UCLA and close victories over Miss State, McNeese State, and Central Michigan. Those wins definitely inflate the Tigers record as this team is being overvalued just a bit in this game.
The running game for the Tigers has been an absolute disaster this season. The offensive line hasn’t been able to help much with this either. The Tigers need to find a way to be better committed to the run game. This team has tried different sets and formations to try to open things up, but one problem is they have to actually commit to the change.
You would think averaging 31 points per game would land you up near the top of the league, but the Tigers’ offensive attack has placed them at 12th overall in the conference, only ahead of South Carolina and Vandy. In the loss against Auburn, they are coming off their lowest offensive output this season, only putting up 19 points in the Valley.
Kentucky Wildcats Betting Preview
The Kentucky Wildcats have been one of the better stories this season as they currently sit at 5-0. This team features one of the premier defenses in the nation at eighth best, allowing only 15.2 points per game.
Will Levis and the Kentucky offense will need to be a little better than it was against the Gators there last time out. The Wildcats have leaned on their defense pretty heavily, and it’s for good reason as they only allowed 23 points to the Gators in the upset win.
The Wildcats are -2.5 point favorites over the Tigers in this game. It’s hard not to side with the blue and white given their exceptional play as of late. LSU has really struggled, so I wouldn’t overthink this contest as LSU hasn’t beaten a tough team yet this season.
The Wildcats are led by Sophomore phenom quarterback Max Jones who is currently third in the SEC conference with nearly 1,500 passing yards. Jones’ top target is wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who ranks second in the SEC, pulling in 436 yards per game.
LSU leads the all-time head-to-head record 40-16-1 against the Kentucky Wildcats. The Tigers have won the last two meetings, including the most recent game 41-3.
