Texas Longhorns vs. Texas Tech Raiders Analysis
Texas Longhorns:
The Longhorns have a pretty solid passing game. They’re not necessarily going to beat you over the top too much, but they can go over the top.
The short, intermediate routes are where they flourish and they’re not afraid to put together methodical 12-15 play drives.
NCAAF Player Stats
The ground game is somewhat of a work in progress. While the Longhorns don’t have a dominant running back that’s going to dominate NCAAF player stats, they do have a solid offensive play.
The O-Line has no problem holding their own and opening up lanes for their running backs to go 5-7 yards untouched.
The defensive side of the ball is probably where Texas is at their strongest, while fatigue can sometimes be a weakness late in games, but when you hold Alabama to 20 points, you’re doing alright.
Solid Longhorns
The Longhorns are solid against the run with a stout front seven. They can sometimes get beat along the edges against speedy running backs; they more than make up for it with their beefy linemen.
In the secondary, Texas is more than capable of holding its own. They do have a tendency to occasionally give up the big play, but their cornerbacks don’t get beat much, and when they do, the red zone defense is forcing field goals, limiting the big play impact.
Texas Tech Raiders:
Offensively, the Raiders are strong with their passing attack. The problem for Texas Tech is they aren’t great in any areas of their passing attack; they are just good everywhere. Sometimes good just isn’t good enough, and that is the problem the Raiders face.
On the ground, the Raiders look to their offensive line to create plays the ground, which they have been doing a decent job at so far this season.
Raiders Have to Step Up
The big guys up front are really going to have to step up if the Raiders are going to have a chance at establishing a run game in this matchup.
Texas Tech is no slouch on the defensive side of the ball by any stretch of the imagination, that’s for sure. Their secondary can hold their own against any receiving core, and that’s what we’re in store for Saturday night.
