Western Carolina vs. Oklahoma Sooners Betting Preview
The Western Carolina Catamounts head to Oklahoma to face the Sooners. The Catamounts are coming off a tough 31-28 loss to Eastern Kentucky. Now, they’ll head to Oklahoma to face the No.4 team in the nation. There isn’t much hope for the Catamounts to win this one, but they could perhaps cover the spread.
The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off a win at home over Tulane. They narrowly escaped the game with a win though, winning just 45-30. In the game against Tulane, the Sooners were favored by over thirty points. Needless to say, they disappointed everyone by not covering the spread. Now they’ve got another huge spread in front of them, are they a reliable team to take? Or will Western Carolina be the better option?
Western Carolina Covered Against Eastern Kentucky
Sure, the Catamounts aren’t a great college football team, but they’ve kept spirits high in their losses. When they hosted Eastern Kentucky they were 10-point underdogs and only narrowly lost the game. The offense looked like it was getting into a rhythm early on. Unfortunately for them, the defense couldn’t hold up the end of the bargain.
Facing the Oklahoma Sooners is going to be a tough day for Western Carolina. They already know that nobody thinks they’ll win. That’s not the real question though, the real question is whether they can cover. Considering they’ll have a margin of 46.5-points, we wouldn’t put it past them. When you start thinking about how Oklahoma allowed Tulane to score thirty points, the +46.5 looks good.
What Happened to the Sooner Defense?
We understand that Oklahoma doesn’t have a defense like Georgia or Alabama, but allowing 30 points is awful. They played Tulane, a team the sportsbook had them beating by over thirty points. Instead of covering the spread, they surrendered thirty points and won by only fifteen. The credibility of the Oklahoma Sooners defense was washed away in a single game.
The offense looked incredible, scoring 45 points against the Tulane defense. Unfortunately, you can’t always rely on the offense to cover the spread. At some point, we imagine the coaching staff got together and worked tirelessly on defense. If the Sooners want any chance at winning games in the College Football Playoffs, they’ll need better defense.
Before You Bet on West Carolina vs. Oklahoma
There are a few things you’ll need to consider before betting on either of these teams. First, go over the history of West Carolina and you’ll see they improved drastically. Then you’ll have to consider how they’ve done against big-name teams. In 2020, they played the Alabama Crimson Tide and lost 66-3. Take all those things into consideration before placing your bet on West Carolina +46.5.
When contemplating a bet on the Sooners, consider their performance against Tulane. For starters, we don’t believe that any of the coaching staff was happy with the defensive performance. In fact, we believe that that was the primary focus in preparing for this game. You’ll also need to look at their history against spreads over forty in 2020. Last year, the Sooners covered a 47.5 point spread against Missouri State and a 38.5 point spread against Kansas.
