NFL Week 3 of the NFL preseason is the final opportunity for players to work out the kinks before the real action begins. When trying to make Dolphins vs. Eagles predictions, there are plenty of things to look at for this matchup.
When making NFL picks against the spread, especially in the preseason, there are a ton of factors to consider, most notably, how much each team’s starters will actually play.
In the past, the third preseason game was often the one where starters saw the majority of the action. But that was when there were four of these, and they’ve since been cut down to three.
These two teams have drawn quite a bit of parallel to each other heading into the 2022 campaign which should make this contest a nice barometer in each locker room as they get ready to kickoff the year.
NFL Previous Scoreboard
The Dolphins are 1-1 on the preseason, having beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 26-24 in the preseason opener and losing 15-13 to the Las Vegas Raiders in Game 2.
The Eagles are also 1-1 but had inverse score results to the Dolphins. Philadelphia lost the preseason opener 24-21 against the New York Jets but regrouped for a 21-20 nailbiter over the Cleveland Browns in the second outing.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Miami Dolphins Betting Analysis
Eagles Analysis
Jalen Hurts is expected to see some action in South Beach Saturday night, but how much will depend on how things go early on. Hurts is entering his second full season as the Birds’ starting quarterback and 2022 will be a make-or-break year for the former Alabama and Oklahoma product.
Miles Sanders’ Training Camp
Miles Sanders’ training camp has been disrupted by injury so his status heading into the season is certainly worth monitoring, as is whether or not the team decides to add to the running back room (there have been rumors of a deal with Cleveland Browns to acquire Kareem Hunt).
Hurts will have some talented support around him offensively in the form of DaVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and AJ Brown who they acquired from Tennessee on draft night.
Dolphins Analysis
We alluded to the similarities between the NFL teams as we break down our Dolphins vs. Eagles predictions. The Dolphins’ starting QB is Tua Tagovailoa who actually replaced Hurts at Alabama and forced him to transfer to the Sooners program.
Both Hurts and Tua are under similar circumstances in that their respective front offices surrounded their young gunslinger with a talented offensive arsenal.
Dolphins’ Biggest Transaction
So it’s put up or shut up time in 2022. The Dolphins’ biggest transaction came when they traded the farm to Kansas City Chiefs to bring in Tyreek Hill.
Much like Brown joins a former Crimson Tide receiver in Smith, Hill is now paired with a second-year standout in Jaylen Waddle, also from Alabama.
Injuries for this Matchup
On the Eagles’ side, OT Brett Toth and tight end Tyree Jackson have been ruled out. Running back Miles Sanders is questionable.
For the Miami Dolphins, fullback John Lovett and cornerback Mackenzie Alexander are on injured reserve and won’t be available until later in the season. Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, and cornerback Nik Needham are all questionable.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Miami Dolphins Betting Preview
Miami is a slight favorite at home on the moneyline at -125 while Philadelphia is +105. Mirroring the moneyline is the one-point spread.
The Dolphins have -120 odds to win by more than one point while Eagles +1 is at even money. The over/under is set to 37.5 with -110 odds to either side of the total.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Miami Dolphins Betting Prediction
When trying to make Eagles vs. Dolphins betting predictions for this game, it’s important to remember that this is a preseason matchup. Both squads are 1-1 in the NFL standings as they approach their final tune-up.
Oddsmakers view these teams very similarly in terms of where they are placed in the NFL odds futures markets.
Who to Bet On?
Both teams have bubble players who get one more chance to make a roster, or impress teams around the league with what they put on tape.
As if that wasn’t motivation enough, the Philadelphia Eagles were embarrassed several times during the Wednesday joint practice, so they’ll be out to change that Saturday, so you should take Philly +1.
NFL Pick: Eagles +1 (-100)
