New York Giants vs. Tennessee Titans
Giants vs. Titans Odds Breakdown
Giants Current Odds
The Giants (+5.5) are +220 underdogs. Last year, the Giants were 6-11 against the spread, but Daniel Jones (12-25 as a starter) is 11-4 against the spread as a road underdog.
Titans Current Odds
The Titans (-5.5) are -260 favorites. Last season, the Titans were 10-8 against the spread, including their playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round. As good of a head coach Mike Vrabel has been, he’s only 15-21-1 as a home favorite.
New York Giants
Strengths:
The strength of the Giants on offense will have to come from Saquon Barkley and their running game.
Barkley, who has missed 18 games the past two seasons is a dynamic player who commands respect from defense and improves everyone around him.
As a rookie in 2018, Barkley had 2,028 total yards from scrimmage (1,307 rushings, 721 receiving), including 91 receptions.
It’s no secret that when the Giants were good, even sometimes great, their pass rush was dominant. First-year defensive coordinator Don Wink Martindale will definitely bring an edge to this Giants’ defense.
Martindale was a big hit in Baltimore with his aggressive blitzing scheme and will have plenty of run-stoppers and pass rushers to work within the Giants’ front seven.
Weaknesses:
The Passing attack is the big weak spot on the Giants’ offense. Daniel Jones is just 12-25 as the starting quarterback for the Giants. Jones has 17 interceptions and just 21 touchdowns in the past two seasons.
Defensively, the Giants’ weakness is their secondary, which has the potential to be a big problem.
Tennessee Titans
Offense:
The strength of the Tennessee Titans on offense is no doubt Derrick Henry and the run game.
Henry, despite only playing seven full games in the regular season, still amassed 937 rush yards and ten touchdowns. The two-time rushing champion will also be greeted by most of his offensive line returning from last year.
Tannehill Performance
To say the passing game is going to pose a problem is an understatement. Ryan Tannehill is 34 years old and coming off a playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals where he threw 3 Titans picks.
Tannehill will also be without 66% of his 2021 receiving core. A.J. Brown left for the Eagles at the draft. Julio Jones went ring chasing with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay, and newly signed wide receiver Robert Woods is coming off an ACL injury.
Defense:
The strength of the Titans’ defense is the interior of their defensive line. Last year the Titans only allowed an NFL-best 83.5 yards per game.
The pass rush and losing Harold Landry for the year with a torn ACL is going to be a big problem heading into the 2022 season.
New York Giants Tennessee Titans Season Forecast
Giants Season Forecast
After too many times of getting it wrong, it appears the Giants finally got it right by hiring former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as their head coach.
While it’s not too much to ask of Daboll to win eight or nine with this roster in a weak NFC East division, it would still be a major jump.
Daboll did impressive work with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills offense last season, but taking this Giants offense that only averaged 15.2 PPG last season, only scoring more than ten points once during their final six games is a lot.
The Giants are more than likely still a year or two away, and taking under seven on their projected season win total is your best bet.
Titans Season Forecast
Trading A.J. Brown to the Eagles was the right move for the Titans financially but will have repercussions and hurt them significantly this season.
The Titans will go under their 9.5 projected season win total this season.
What To Expect From This Matchup?
Expect a low-scoring affair with both of these teams running the ball a lot, trying to offset their inability to do anything in the passing game.
This should be a relatively easy game for Tennessee. The odds say the Titans are 5.5 point favorites, but the Giants stats say more than that.
The Titans ground and pound with Derrick Henry and ultimately ran away with this one late and making the spread our Titans vs Giants best bet
