The Week 7 NFL schedule has the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the Miami Dolphins in one of the league’s primetime games.
Neither team is where they want to be in the NFL standings, with the Steelers (2-4) underwhelming in the AFC North and the Dolphins (3-3) off to a mediocre start after the injury bug has hit the quarterback room.
Still, the two teams meet at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, with the game airing on NBC.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins
Matchup Info
The Steelers hold an all-time advantage against the Dolphins with a 13-11 edge. Pittsburgh won the last meeting, which came in 2019, 27-14, which snapped a pair of losses the Dolphins had in the series. Pittsburgh dominated through the 2000s with a 5-0 record from 2004 to 2010.
Over the last five meetings in the series, the underdog is 4-1 against the spread, and the Dolphins are 4-1. Do with that what you will for Steelers vs. Dolphins betting picks.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the worst offenses in the league early on this season. They are third worst in scoring at 16.2 points per contest and fourth worst in total yardage at 291.5 yards per game.
Neither the passing attack nor the rushing attack has been up to par, especially as the offensive line issues persist.
NFL Player Stats
NFL player stats show when veteran Mitchell Trubisky has played, sacks have been an issue, with nine this season.
But when rookie Kenny Pickett has played, protecting the ball is an issue, with four interceptions in three games.
Pickett does, however, have a higher completion percentage at 66.3% to Trubisky’s 60.9% and is averaging 12 more yards per game.
Rushing Attack
The rushing attack can’t get going, though, with Najee Harris averaging 3.2 yards per carrying and 44 yards per game with just one of the team’s four touchdowns on the season. Pickett has two, and Trubisky has the other.
Defensively, things haven’t been much better for the Steelers. They lost defensive MVP, T.J. Watt, to what looks to be a season-ending injury.
They are allowing teams to gain 398 yards per game, the fourth-worst rate in the league, but only allow 24.3 points per game, which is 23rd.
Key Injuries
The Steelers have ten players listed as questionable on the mid-week NFL injury report. Notably, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is one of three defensive backs listed.
The Steelers have Pickett listed as probable to return from a concussion, as are tight end Pat Friermuth and cornerback Levi Wallace.
Betting Trends to Know
The Steelers are 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. They are 0-3-1 against the spread in their last four games against AFC opponents.
They are 2-8-1 against the spread in their last 11 games following an against-the-spread win. Over the last eight years, they are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games.
Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins have moved the ball very well this season. They are eighth in total yardage at 366.2 per contest. However, scoring 21.8 points per game is 17th in the league, with plenty of room for improvement.
The issue has been consistency at quarterback, with injuries allowing all three QBs to start this season.
Dolphins Performance Recap
Getting Tua Tagovailoa back is key, as he is completing 69.6% of his passes and throwing for 258.8 yards per game. He has eight touchdowns to three interceptions and a rating of 109.9.
- Tyreek Hill
- Jaylen Waddle
- Mike Gesicki
- River Cracraft
Each have multiple touchdowns in the passing game. The addition of Hill has truly been special, as he has 50 catches for 701 yards while Waddle is at 30 for 533.
Running back Raheem Mostert has emerged as the leader, averaging 4.4 yards per carry and picking up 14 first downs. However, Chase Edmonds has two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown.
Key Injuries
There is a litany of injury issues for the Dolphins this week, with 12 players – six on offense and six on defense – listed as questionable on the mid-week injury report.
The good news is that Tagovailoa is probable to return from a nasty concussion history, and Waddle is probable with a shoulder injury.
Four of the defensive players with injury designations are on the line or edge, while another is a cornerback. That news comes after corner Nik Needham went on Injured Reserve with an Achilles injury.
Betting Trends to Know
The Dolphins are 0-6-1 against the spread in their last seven games in October. They are, however, 10-2 against the spread in their last 12 home games against teams with a losing record.
They are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine home games, regardless of opponent. The over is 14-2 in the Dolphins’ last 16 games in NFL Week 7.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins Betting Picks
Moneyline
Even though the value isn’t as good as it once was, the Dolphins are the play here with Tagovailoa returning to the lineup. Expect a more dynamic offense to exploit a poor defense.
NFL Pick: Dolphins (-320)
Over/Under
The reality is this is dependent on if the Steelers can move the ball. They haven’t done a great job of that, though the Dolphins’ defensive line is dinged up, so maybe that bodes well with Pickett returning. We’ll stay under 45, though.
NFL Pick: Under 45.5 (-110)
Spread
It’s tough not getting the hook earlier in the week, but the Dolphins should win by more than two scores, so we’ll take them -7.
NFL Pick: Dolphins-9 (-105)
