The Washington at New York matchup in the NFL’s Week 18 finale looks like a meeting of which team wants it less. WFT has lost four in a row while the Giants have dropped their last five as both teams are looking ahead towards another offseason of heavy change.
To their credit, at least Washington has been playing teams somewhat closer than the Giants. WFT has been within 10 points in three of their last four losses, but New York looks atrocious with four straight defeats, all by at least 15 points.
Washington at Giants Betting Analysis
On the Washington side
Washington had a great opportunity over the last five games of the year because they were all division matchups. WFT lost by one score to Dallas (27-20) and Philadelphia (20-16) but have also lost road games to those NFC East foes by a combined 52 points over the past month.
The good news for Washington is that New York is nowhere near the caliber of the Cowboys or Eagles, who are both headed to the playoffs. WFT beat the Giants 30-29 in their first meeting this season, but that was way back in week two when both teams had high hopes for the year that were ultimately crushed.
On the New York side
The Giants are a prospective destination for a possible new head coach because they are in a huge market and also have a lot of draft capital.
New York is currently in line for the #5 draft pick, which could jump up to #3 depending on how the final weekend goes, but they also have Chicago’s 1st round pick, which is currently slotted at #8.
The future is really the only thing to be optimistic about for the Giants as they have lost five in a row, all by double digits. Last week’s 29-3 loss to Chicago was the worst defeat of the bunch, with New York finishing with an embarrassing -10 yards passing. Saquon Barkley did have 21 carries for 102 yards, his first time topping the century mark this season.
WFT at Giants Prediction
Washington is a -6.5 favorite for the regular-season finale, and a play on them wouldn’t be because WFT is good – it would be due to New York being that bad. Chicago absolutely dominated the Giants last week even though the Bears had nothing to play for, and that’s the spot WFT is in for Week 18.
At 6-10, Washington is currently in line for #9 in next year’s draft, so a loss really doesn’t change their positioning all that much. Therefore we don’t have to worry about a ‘tank’ in this matchup – from Washington at least – and a defeat would actually be a good thing for the Giants. WFT should run away with this one.
