Being a member of the New York Jets fanbase has been a rough ride since they lost in the AFC Championship game at the end of the 2010 season. The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since, and the NY Jets playoffs odds were usually bleak before the season ever started. This year, however, there is reason for optimism.
The Jets had several talented skill position players have strong rookie seasons last year. New York also brought in future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to run the offense. While Rogers is at the end of his career, he is the best quarterback the Jets have had under center since Joe Namath left the team. Anyone keeping an eye on the NFL schedule will be curious if Rodgers still has the juice to turn things around for the Jets.

Rodgers is still playing at a strong level
Seeing Rodgers playing outside of Green Bay will be strange. During his time with the Packers, Rodgers compiled a 147-75-1 record as a starter. He also led the Packers to a Super Bowl title. However, NFL stats show the Packers’ recent lack of postseason success, coupled with Rodgers’ eccentric personality, soured the relationship between club and player.
Rodgers passed for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns last season. However, Green Bay Packers failed to make the playoffs for a variety of reasons. One was Rodgers struggled with turnovers. He threw 12 interceptions last season, which was the first time he tossed double-digit picks since 2010.
One thing that will benefit the NY Jets playoffs odds is second-year wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall. Each had strong rookie years and will benefit from the attention Rodgers will draw.
New York has a good defense
Robert Salah came to the Jets coaching position with a reputation as a defensive mastermind. New York has taken on the identity of its coach. The Jets ranked fourth in the league in yards allowed, only allowing opponents to gain 311.1 per game.
New York was especially good in the passing game, ranking third in yards allowed at 189.4 per game. When it came to the NFL standings, the Jets allowed 18.6 points per game, which ranked fourth in the league. If New York can build on that, winning the AFC East is a definitive possibility.
People are optimistic
The chances being set for the NY Jets playoffs odds are higher than in years’ past. The Jets are -134 to make the postseason, while they are +108 to miss. New York’s over/under for win total has been set at 9.5. People making NFL picks believe this could be the year where the Jets turn things around.
New York also has the benefit of having finished in last place in the division last season. What that means for the Jets is they won’t have as tough of as a schedule as some of the NFL teams competing with them for the playoffs.
The division may be open
Buffalo is still a clear favorite in NFL odds to win the AFC East. However, the Bills have shown they are vulnerable if Josh Allen can’t tighten things up when it comes to turning the ball over. The Miami Dolphins will need to try and find a way to keep Tua Tagovailoa healthy if they are going to keep winning.
The New England Patriots are still trying to figure out how to rebuild around Mac Jones. The Jets are in a good position to snap the league’s longest playoff drought. New York will utilize having a franchise quarterback to climb back to the top of the standings.
