San Jose Sharks play on back-to-back nights, visiting the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.
The Maple Leafs are riding a four-game winning streak and a Mitchell Marner’s points-scoring heater, while the Sharks are coming off a shut-out victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
This is the second and final head-to-head matchup between San Jose and Toronto this year, with the Sharks winning 4-3 in overtime on October 27 in San Jose.
However, this result does not seem to be affecting the current Sharks vs Maple Leafs odds at all.

San Jose Sharks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Preview
San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks find themselves near the bottom of the NHL standings with an 8-13-4 record. The Sharks have won two of their last five games, with four ending with at least a 1.5-goal spread.
Three of the Sharks’ last five games have surpassed a total goal scored of 6 or 6.5, while one game finished with exactly six goals.
The Sharks average 3.0 goals per game on 29.8 shots while giving up 3.44 goals per game on 30.6 shots.
Sharks’ Powerplay
The Sharks’ powerplay is slightly below the league-average conversion rate, scoring thirteen powerplay goals and converting on 19.7 percent of their chances.
On the other hand, San Jose’s penalty killers have been outstanding, killing off 91.2% of the Sharks’ penalties and only giving up six powerplay goals.
Defenceman Erik Karlsson is the San Jose Sharks player stats leader with thirty-two points (eleven goals, twenty-one assists). Karlsson is on pace to eclipse 100 points if he plays every game and continues scoring at his current rate.
Sharks’ Injury Report
The Sharks NHL injury report is lengthy, with ESPN listing five Sharks as either out or on the injured reserve. The biggest name on the injured list for the Sharks is goalie James Reimer.
With Reimer out, the Sharks have relied on Kaapo Kahkonen in the net. Kahkonen shut out the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night, but we’re not sure what San Jose will do with their goaltending.
If Kahkonen gets the start, he has a 3-5-2 record, a 3.43 goals-against average, and a .884 save percentage.
If Kahkonen doesn’t start, the Sharks will turn to Aaron Dell. Dell was the Sharks’ backup from 2016-17 to 2019-20 before returning to the franchise in 2022-23.
Dell has not played in the NHL this season but has a 3-3-0 record, a 3.22 goals-against average, and a .904 save percentage with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs enter Wednesday night’s game with a 14-5-5 record. The Maple Leafs have won their last four games, with two of five ending with at least a 1.5-goal spread. Only one game hit the over of 6.5, while another had exactly six goals scored.
The Maple Leafs look like the playoff contenders we expected them to be despite the exhaustive NHL injury report and the surprising number of man-games lost to injury so far this season.
The Maple Leafs are averaging 3.04 goals per game on 30.5 shots while giving up 2.54 goals per game on 29.0 shots.
Maple Leafs’ Powerplay
As expected, Toronto’s powerplay has been pretty good this season, converting on 25% of their opportunities (nineteen powerplay goals).
The Maple Leafs’ penalty kill could be better, only killing off 79.2% of their penalties (sixteen powerplay goals against).
Mitchell Marner is on a seventeen-game point streak and leads the Maple Leafs in NHL player stats with twenty-eight points (seven goals, twenty-one assists). You should target Marner, Auston Matthews, or John Tavares for prop bets in this game.
Maple Leafs’ Strongest Goaltender
While Ilya Samsonov was the Maple Leafs’ strongest goaltender to start the season and carried the team when Matt Murray was injured. Samsonov joins three of the Maple Leafs’ top defencemen on the injured reserve list.
After reviewing the Maple Leafs’ recent goaltending rotation and upcoming schedule, we think Matt Murray will get the start for Toronto against San Jose.
Murray has a 5-1-1 record with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.
San Jose Sharks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Preview
Now, it’s time to make our Toronto Maple Leafs prediction. Yes, we just spoiled our picks, but the Maple Leafs should win this game outright.
We’ll take the Maple Leafs as the heavy favorite on the moneyline. We’re not sure the Sharks have enough to defeat the Maple Leafs in late November, unlike when they beat them in late October.
Despite the Toronto Maple Leafs recent performances, we’re also a fan of the over in this game.
The Leafs have scored four goals in their last three games and are playing their weakest opponent in some time. The Sharks can score and give up quite a few goals and have done so frequently recently.
We’ll take these two teams to hit the over of 6 or 6.5, depending on which betting line is playing the best odds.
As for the puck line spread, we’ll take the Maple Leafs to cover the spread (-1.5). San Jose has only played in one game in their last five that didn’t end in a 1.5 goal spread or more: a 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks. The Leafs should cover the spread and win outright.
NHL Pick: Maple Leafs -1.5 (-110)
