The Carolina Panthers will travel to MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take on the New York Giants in a Week 7 matchup. The Panthers are 3-4 and are coming off a 34-28 overtime home loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
Quarterback Sam Darnold struggled as he went 17-of-41 for 207 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Giants are 1-5 this year and are coming off a 38-11 home loss against the Los Angeles Rams. Quarterback Daniel Jones went 29-of-51 for 242 yards with three interceptions.
Give Me Moore
The Carolina Panthers love to get the ball in the air, and wide receiver DJ Moore has been doing well this season. So far this year, he has 35 receptions for 440 yards (12.6 yards per catch) with three touchdowns.
In the last game against the Vikings, Moore finished with five catches on 13 targets for 73 yards (14.6 yards per reception). If he can be more involved here this week, it will do wonders for the Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers have been doing well defensively as they are allowing 20.2 points per game this year. Looking at their previous game against the Minnesota Vikings, they gave up 34 points on 571 total yards of offense (373 passing, 198 rushing).
They did a decent job defending third downs as they allowed the Vikings to go 7-of-16 on third downs. Carolina needs to work on defending against the run as they gave up 5.5 yards per rushing attempt. If the defense can step up, it will really help the Panthers get back in the win column.
Rookie Learning
The New York Giants will be leaning on rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney in this game. He is questionable as he re-aggravated an ankle injury. So far this season, Toney has 23 receptions for 317 yards (13.8 yards per catch).
In the last game against the Los Angeles Rams, Toney finished with three catches on three targets for 36 yards (12 yards per reception). If Toney can play here, it will give the Giants a chance here.
The New York Giants have been struggling defensively as they gave up 29.5 points per game. In their previous game against the Los Angeles Rams, they allowed 38 points on 365 yards of total offense (234 passing, 131 rushing).
The Giants need to defend the run better as they gave up 3.9 rushing yards per attempt. They also forced a pair of interceptions against the Rams’ backup QB in garbage time. If the defense can fix their mistakes, it will really help New York here.
Who to Bet?
These teams are both flawed as they are likely without their star running backs. The New York Giants have been atrocious lately and are one of the worst teams in the NFL the past few seasons record-wise.
The Panthers have covered the spread in their last four road games against a team with a losing home record. This line is sitting around a field goal right now, so suck up the three points and bet on the Panthers to cover the spread.
