A busy year of action on the scores and odds is set for the sport, with major cycling events taking place throughout 2024. The Olympic Games, staged in France, will feature one of the standout cycling events over the summer.
The country will host two major events, both of which will be among the top cycling races to bet on this year, with the Tour de France retaining its status as the most prestigious. Below, you can find out more about the top cycling races to bet on in 2024.
Tour de France 2024
The world’s most famous bike race will kick off its 111th edition on June 29, crowning the winner of the Yellow Jacket on July 21. For the first time in history, the event won’t reach its conclusion in Paris, due to the ongoing preparations for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The event will get underway in Italy, with the final stage seeing the winner crowned following a time trial between Monaco and Nice. Despite facing steep odds, Jonas Vingegaard of Team Jumbo-Visma triumphed in another exhilarating cycling betting event staged in 2023.
Tadej Pogacar is among the front-runners to win the event this year in cycling betting, as he bids to go one better than his second in 2023. Primoz Roglic also ranks among the likely contenders for one of the top cycling races to bet on in 2024, while Adam Yates could be an interesting outsider worth considering.
Olympic Games
Some of the most prestigious events on the cycling schedule this year will take place across the final week of July, as the Olympic Games will be staged in France. The road race will be among the most sought-after gold medal, with Pont d’Alena hosting the competition. Richard Carapaz was a shock winner of the road race in 2020, as Ecuador celebrated a rare top prize at the Olympics.
Roglic was the winner of the time trial, and the Slovenian will once again rank among the most likely winners in 2024. Competitive track events will also take place in Paris, in addition to road races. Great Britain has dominated the track events throughout recent history, and the nation could once again hold solid claims in events such as the Omnium, Madison, and Team Pursuit.
Mountain biking and BMX will also be staged for the second edition of the Olympics, with reigning champions such as Beth Shriever, Tom Piddock, and Jolanda Neff back to defend their Olympic prizes.
Giro d’Italia
Outside of the events in France, one of the most prestigious events to make cycling picks on this year will be the Giro d’Italia. This year’s competition will get underway on May 4 in Venaria Reale, before the winner will be crowned on May 26 in Rome.
A total of 3,321 km will be covered by the field, with Tadej Pogacar once again ranking among the favorites after he decides to compete in the Giro. The Slovenian landed his first-ever win in the event last year, while he has previously won four individual stages at the Giro during his career.
Geraint Thomas could be a leading contender to tackle the reigning champion, as the Brit will compete in the Giro before the Olympics. Last year’s third-place rider Joao Almeida will also be looking to go a few steps better this year, but he could have something to find based on the performance of the winner in 2023. Early clues for the time trial at the Olympics could be on offer in the Giro this year.
