To kick off the clubs’ second-to-last series of the season, the San Francisco Giants will pay a visit to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.
Diamondbacks vs. Giants Performance Recap
The Giants (73-77) completed a four-game set sweep on the road at Colorado Thursday night. San Francisco won, 3-0, thanks in part to outfielder Mike Yastrzemski’s home run.
He had a multi-hit performance, along with designated hitter Joc Pederson, who also had an RBI on the night. The team allowed 10 hits, but behind the efforts of six hurlers, kept the Rockies off of the scoreboard.
A Five-Game Bill
Arizona (70-81) fell in the finale of a five-game bill to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have been one of, if not the strongest clubs in MLB this year. In that one, they landed on the short side of a 3-2 decision.
Starting pitcher Zac Gallen went eight innings in that one, allowing only two hits and an earned run. He also set down 13 challengers on strikes.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants Betting Analysis
Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks are out of playoff contention, having gone 27-48 against teams over .500 this year.
Right fielder Daulton Varsho has put up the best batting average mark on the team thus far, hitting .242. First baseman Christian Walker has been the team’s key cog, though, as he’s smacked 36 home runs and piled up 87 RBIs.
He also had a .327 on-base percentage and 128 total base knocks. Tommy Henry will be pitching for the Snakes. He’s 3-4 to this point in the campaign.
San Francisco Giants
Meanwhile, San Francisco is 9.5 games out of the National League’s last Wild Card spot and is in danger of missing the playoffs if they can’t go on a lengthy win streak. It’s looking more and more like Milwaukee is the only team that’s on the outside looking in that has any sort of chance.
Atlanta, San Diego, and Philadelphia are the crews to hold a Wild Card spot at the moment. The Braves have clinched a postseason berth.
Second baseman Thairo Estrada has a .265 batting average, while Pederson has recorded 22 dingers. Second baseman Wilmer Flores has 69 RBIs.
Who Is Starting for Rodon?
Carlos Rodon will be making the start for the Giants in this one. He’s 13-8 this season, with an impressive 2.84 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. His 220 strikeouts are the third-most in the major leagues.
San Francisco won his last time out, as he went five frames against the Braves, allowing just two hits and one earned run.
MLB Injury Report
Of course, this wouldn’t be a full Giants vs. Diamondbacks betting analysis without an MLB injury report. Third baseman Yonny Hernandez and right fielder Pavin Smith are the position players out for the Snakes.
