Zion Williamson stats are incredible when he is actually on the court, and few can dispute that. There is just one small problem with the big fella, the former No.1 overall pick. In four seasons, he has missed more games than he has played in. NBA betting trends might even try and monetize his lack of appearances into some potential easy money for those who can be swayed. He spends more time on the NBA injury report as much as he does anywhere else.
He was an All-Star during the 2020-21 year, and it was deserved. But complicating things even further is his off-court issues that have surfaced in the past few weeks. He wasn’t doing a good job of keeping a low profile in his personal life, and it’s got him in trouble.
Doubly so; he missed an entire season and came back to play just 29 games after that and miss the rest of things. Things are not going too well with him, and among the 2019 NBA picks, he is one of the most disappointing for that reason.
Will there be a new Zion Williamson team? With the draft now done, it is unlikely they would pull the trigger on a trade. But the possibility exists. Moving the Zion Williamson contract could become important if he continues to prove an inability to stay on the court.
Off to the Big Apple?
Might the Knicks make a play for Zion Williamson? They have his old pal RJ Barrett, and at one time also employed Cam Reddish. They moved him to bring Josh Hart to town, and they would have all three of the 2018 Duke Blue Devils musketeers on the roster with Tom Thibodeau at the helm. If they can move Julius Randle and Immanuel Quickley along with heavy draft capital, they might be able to get them to bite. Perhaps they wouldn’t want him, though.
NBA stats are pretty solid from Randle, though his reputation to other teams isn’t the best. Sometimes he isn’t at his best, and he decides it’s his time against the best interest of the team. But New Orleans owes Zion so much money at the moment that maybe they would consider moving the contract and trying to bring new pieces in. He has appeared in 29 games out of the last 164, which really isn’t too great.
Could New York be the next Zion Williamson team? It remains in the realm of possibility. But it would be tough for a team coming off a second-round trip to trade multiple core pieces for someone who cannot stay on the court for too long. Nonetheless, it’s not impossible. NBA odds could support it.
Does Portland Go All In?
Though moving Damian Lillard continues to be a possibility, perhaps the team sells pieces around him to try and get better? The Pelicans could decide to make a move to acquire the likes of Anfernee Simons, Jerami Grant and/or some picks from them in exchange for Williamson because a duo of Lillard and Zion over in Portland could be intriguing. They may well not be the next Zion Williamson team, but they could.
Scoot Henderson is the future over there, as Lillard is now over 33 years of age. They will make moves of some kind over the summer, for better or worse.
Charlotte has some salary fillers in the form of Gordon Hayward and PJ Washington, and has a number of assets they would be able to include in a deal. Being able to add Williamson to a roster that has LaMelo Ball and the newly drafted Brandon Miller would be intriguing.
Would it work out? That’s hard to say. But it would be a lot of fun to see the potential of them with Mark Williams coming into his own in year two.
Houston is full of young pieces all over, and if they decided to pull the trigger, it would speed their playoff timeline under first-year coach Ime Udoka. Anything can happen.
