Purdue Boilermakers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview
The Purdue Boilermakers were one of four Big Ten teams that did not win in Week One. The Boilermakers could not slow down Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene. He threw for four touchdowns in the win over the Boilers.
Things will not get easier for the Purdue Boilermakers schedule as they play this game, followed by a trio of home games against Syracuse, Wisconsin, and Iowa, before a trip to Iowa and a home game against Ohio State.
The Boilermakers must work on that defense that ranked 114th after opening week. The defense picked up an interception in the game, but not only did they throw for 371 yards, but they also rushed for an additional 116 yards in the game.
Offensively, they were fine. Quarterback Hudson Card threw for 254 yards, with 152 to Deion Burks. Burks finished with two touchdowns in the game. Returning running back Devin Mockobee had a nice game for Purdue, running the ball 16 times for 60 yards and a touchdown.
The Hokies took care of Old Dominion in Week One in a game many had circled as a danger zone-type game. The Hokies will play their second straight game at home before going on the road for three of their next four. Trips to Rutgers and Marshall before a home game against Pittsburgh will lead up to the trip to Florida State to start October.
In the win on Saturday, Grant Wells tossed for three touchdowns and rushed for another one. The Hokies picked up 259 passing yards and 109 rushing yards in the game. Ali Jennings was the top receiver for Virginia Tech with five catches and 72 yards, with two scores. Bhaysul Tuten led the run game, as he carried the ball 19 times.
Virginia Tech started the score with a first-quarter safety. The defense also forced two lost fumbles and picked off a pass as well in the win. Virginia Tech Hokies lines will be interesting, as the talent is there, but many feel they have to prove themselves first.
Purdue Boilermakers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Prediction
The Purdue Boilermakers have a ton of growing up to do. This is not anywhere near the same team or roster that they had a season ago. It’s an adjustment for a first-year head coach. Virginia Tech, on the other hand, has been there and done that and is not ready to take steps backward.
Virginia Tech should win this game with no problem. The betting odds seem too close in this game, as Purdue will prove to be one of the worst teams in the Big Ten this year, outside of Northwestern.
