Southern Miss Golden Eagles at Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Pick
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday evening to take on the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in a non-conference matchup.
The Golden Eagles are 1-2 this season and are coming off a 21-9 loss to the Troy Trojans, where freshman quarterback Ty Keyes went 16-of-27 for 157 yards and a pair of interceptions.
The Crimson Tide are a perfect 3-0 and are coming off a 31-29 road win over the 11th-ranked Florida Gators, where sophomore quarterback Bryce Young finished 22-of-35 for 240 yards and three touchdowns.
Keeping the Legacy Alive
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles have been a shaky offensive team this season, but freshman running back Frank Gore Jr has been doing pretty well for himself. So far this season, he has 55 rushes for 274 yards (5.0 yards per carry) with a touchdown on the ground while also adding seven catches for 73 yards through the air.
Looking back at last week’s game against Troy, Gore finished with 15 rushes for just 31 rushing yards and five catches for 44 receiving yards. If he can target at least 100+ total yards of offense per game, it will really help the Golden Eagles get going.
Shot of Jameson
The Alabama Crimson Tide offense does not change much throughout the years as they rely on a good passing game. Junior wide receiver Jameson Williams has been playing well this season as he has 11 catches for 218 yards (19.8 yards per reception) and a pair of touchdowns.
Looking at his recent game against the Florida Gators, he finished with four catches for 61 yards but failed to find the end zone for the first time this season. If he can continue to play well in non-conference games as he has played well in those games especially, it will do wonders for the Crimson Tide’s offense as a whole.
Southern Miss Golden Eagles vs Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Angles
This game is expected to be a blowout, and it’s hard to envision this game going any other way. The current line as of this writing on the main sportsbooks has the Crimson Tide as a 45-point favorite with a 58-point total.
Southern Miss is 0-5 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a winning record, while Alabama is a perfect 7-0 ATS in their last seven games facing off against a program with a losing record. The Golden Eagles are also just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the Crimson Tide.
The total being set at 58 points is also an interesting bet as the sportsbooks are not expecting anything out of the Golden Eagles. Their offense has scored less than 10 points in two of their three games this season, so it makes sense that Nick Saban can gameplan to stop them from being a threat offensively.
The Alabama offense is going to have a field day picking apart a weaker opponent’s secondary; that actually has been pretty good as they are allowing just 17.3 points per game to unranked foes. This step-up in the competition will make them struggle, but I do like the under here.
Betting Picks:
Alabama Crimson Tide -45 (-110)
Under 58 (-110)
