Today, we will discuss five different programs that should end up being right in the NCAA Football Playoff discussion based on their NCAAF odds. Let’s discuss the top five teams to win the College Football National Championship this year.
Top Five Teams
USC Trojans (+2000)
The USC Trojans have made a lot of noise since the last time they played a game as they now have former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley leading the program in the same position, and sophomore quarterback Caleb Williams followed him as well to lead the offense.
They are still in the Pac-12, which arguably is a weaker conference, and they would need to make a lot of noise in order to get into the playoffs, but they have the talent.
New Wide Receiver Group
They added a whole new wide receiver group as well junior Jordan Addison transferred from Pitt, sophomore Mario Williams transferred from Oklahoma, and junior Brenden Rice transferred from Colorado.
Bunch of Talent
Riley definitely added a bunch of talent to this Trojans team in a short time and should be the favorite in the NCAAF odds in almost every game they play.
It’s a long shot, but the USC Trojans provide great value to be in the National Championship Game in Riley’s first season at the reigns of this program.
Clemson Tigers (+800)
It’s hard to be a serious contender for a National Championship with a quarterback like junior DJ Uiagalelei, who had nine passing touchdowns to 10 interceptions a year ago, but the program is loaded enough as they went 10-3 in his first season as the starter.
This team is a veteran group as they did not add many players to their roster filled with upperclassmen, and Dabo Sweeney is an excellent head coach.
Having another year removed from having Trevor Lawrence under center should help with the maturation of the offenses well.
Best Offensive Line
With a veteran offensive line protecting Uiagalelei, he should improve, and this program seems to be in a good spot to capture the fourth playoff spot and make some definite noise this season.
This team has one of the best defensive lines in the nation and should be favorites in most games by more than a score.
Georgia Bulldogs (+350)
Now we are getting into the teams that seem to be locked to make it to the College Football Playoffs, as the Georgia Bulldogs have the third-best odds to win the NCAA Championship.
They have a relatively easy schedule as they are not playing:
- Alabama
- Ole Miss
- LSU
- Texas A&M
With Stetson Bennett returning after winning the National Championship last year, this should be exciting with a team that has won together already.
He finished last season with 29 touchdowns to seven interceptions and would have been the best quarterback in the NFL Draft if he left.
Bulldogs Schedule
Their schedule makes it almost impossible to find two losses, so they should already be a lock to make the playoffs.
Their NCAAF picks for each week seem locked in already as winners, and continuing building a solid program seems inevitable with a solid quarterback under center.
The Georgia Bulldogs definitely have an opportunity to run it back and win another National Championship.
Ohio State University (+300)
The one knock on this team is a lot of talent left in the NFL Draft, but Ryan Day is used to finding more talent to win every Saturday.
However, junior quarterback C.J. Stroud definitely showed his dominance last season as he had 44 touchdowns to only six interceptions while leading the nation with a 91.6 QBR in his first season as the starter.
They have a couple of tough games with teams like Notre Dame to start off and:
- Michigan
- Michigan State
- Wisconsin
No Matter Who Is on the Schedule
ut this program has shown why they should dominate no matter who is on the schedule. Having an elite kicker like Noah Ruggles also helps, as he missed just one kick throughout the entirety of the year.
Ohio State definitely has a chance to find its way into hoisting the National Championship trophy in January.
Alabama Crimson Tide (+180)
The NCAAF odds say that the Alabama Crimson Tide have the best chance to win the National Championship, something we hear about almost every season. T
hey lost in the National Championship Game a year ago. They always manage to be in the hunt for a National Title. The Crimson Tide should be heavy favorites in every game on their schedule and do well.
Crimson Tide Offense
This offense dominated as junior quarterback Bryce Young was second in passing yards (4,872), passing touchdowns (47), and QBR (87.6) during last year.
Having guys like DeMarcco Hellams and Jordan Battle return in their secondary also makes it a sure thing that they will be in the College Football Playoffs and likely in the title game.
It feels weird to choose chalk, but Alabama seems to be an easy bet to make.
