College football is officially back on Saturday afternoon as the UConn Huskies will head to Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah to challenge the Utah State Aggies here.
NCAAF Performance Recap
The Huskies finished last season with a miserable 1-11 record and ended the year on a four-game losing streak.
The Aggies were 11-3 and even won the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl Presented by Stifel over the Oregon State Beavers. So who will win Saturday’s game? Find out as we make our Huskies vs. Aggies Score Prediction.
Teams Previous Scoreboards
With this being the first game of the season, we will dive into their only other matchup against one another as well. These teams played back in 2001 with the Aggies picking up a 38-31 win.
However, looking at each program’s season finale last year, UConn lost 45-17 against the Houston Cougars while Utah State defeated the Oregon State Beavers 24-13 in their bowl game.
UConn vs. Utah State Betting Analysis
When looking at the NCAAF schedule, there are some games where you can circle and almost guarantee one team will dominate the other and this definitely feels like it.
Let’s dive into both the Huskies vs. Aggies Score Prediction to figure out which side we should be taking and what the score will actually look like.
UConn Huskies Analysis
The UConn Huskies are not what many consider to be a good football program and are trying to get the right pieces in place with head coach Jim Mora now taking the reigns.
They have sophomore quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson expected to be their starter after transferring from Penn State and not getting much action.
Roberson’s Limited Experience
In his limited experience under center at the collegiate level, he is 11-of-29 for 85 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions through the air, and 13 carries for 23 yards on the ground.
He is not that stabilizing presence in an already weak program with subpar skill position players so it will be interesting to watch his growth at the position facing lesser talent than he was used to at PSU.
Utah State Aggies Analysis
With senior quarterback Logan Bonner returning to the program, he should be in the starting lineup when this game gets underway.
He finished last year with a career-best 61.2 completion percentage for 3,628 yards with 36 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.
They have experience in their wide receiver room with four new transfers there as well as only having a single freshman there.
This team was able to score a lot of points as they averaged 32.6 points per game so look for the offense to continue gaining chunk plays and finding the end zone here.
NCAAF Teams News
The biggest update for the Huskies is the fact that their defensive coordinator and interim head coach for the majority of the last season, Lou Spanos, is currently in the midst of a leave of absence for personal reasons and may not return before the season-opening game.
They did not name a replacement for him for the game as of this writing, leaving the door potentially open for his return, but I would not bank on it.
The Aggies are pretty much returning their team from a year ago minus the few grad transfers and freshmen added to spice up the team this year.
UConn Huskies vs. Utah State Aggies Betting Preview
The moneyline has the Huskies as +1100 underdogs while the Aggies are sitting at -3030 to win straight up.
However, since those numbers are way too large, the spread for this game is 28 points, with Utah State being favored in this opening game of the season.
UConn Huskies vs. Utah State Aggies Betting Prediction
The UConn Huskies are not a very good football program and it will take some time for the right pieces to be in place with head coach Jim Mora controlling the program now.
The Aggies have really shown the ability to dominate and with the absence of DC Spanos for UConn, this should be a great chance for the Aggies to really take control of a putrid defense.
If this Huskies vs. Aggies Score Prediction hasn’t been clear enough, go with the Utah State Aggies to open up the season with a win and to cover the spread on their home field against an inferior program.
I believe the final score will be 49-17 in favor of Utah State as my NCAAF picks for the opening week.
