The season is young, but a lot has happened for the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams. With the season not going as expected for either team, NFL Week 6 serves as a chance to get the season back on track before fans start calling it wraps on the season.
I will break down the matchup while telling you the best Panthers vs. Rams betting picks.
Carolina Panthers vs. Los Angeles Rams
Panthers vs. Rams Matchup
Both teams are playing worse than anyone could’ve imagined, which is scary because their expectations were already low coming into the season.
However, five weeks later, no one could’ve foreseen Matt Rhule already being out of a job as the Panthers look to turn their season around and save any playoff aspirations they might still have this year.
The Rams might have won the Super Bowl last year, but they look like the same old Rams who struggle on offense even though their defense is potent enough to keep them within striking distance.
Even though the lines are large, there are plenty of good Panthers vs. Rams betting picks.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are in a desperate situation. After five weeks, they sit at the bottom of the NFL standings with a 1-4 record.
The underwhelming performance caused Matt Rhule to get fired as coach, leaving Panther fans wondering what the state of the team will be moving forward for the rest of the season.
If the Panthers have any hope of turning their season around, it will have to start with the offense, who currently are last in the league in total offensive yards while ranking 27th in both rush and pass yards, proving that the offense can’t get on the same page in any way.
The only part of the team with some upside is the pass defense. The Panthers are currently ranked 13th in the league in pass yards allowed and 8th in defending passes from earning 1st downs.
Key Injuries
Jaycee Horn and Xavier Woods are looking like they won’t be able to play and will be significant losses to the Panther’s defense.
The Panthers find themselves looking to rely on PJ Walker as Baker Mayfield is out with an ankle injury, and Sam Darnold remains on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury of his own.
Betting Trends to Know
The Panthers are 1-4 against the spread this year and have only covered as underdogs.
Los Angeles Rams
The defending Super Bowl champions are completely underperforming in ways I don’t think many fans thought possible.
Rams’ Stats
The Rams’ stats are absolutely underwhelming as many are now wondering how much OBJ’s play helped elevate the Rams‘ offense last year as it is floundering, currently ranking 29th in points scored and 26th in total yards.
The Rams have the worst rushing offense, and though their passing game isn’t the worst (ranking 13th in passing yards) but aren’t as efficient as the team needs. Los Angeles has thrown the ball the 9th most amount of times of any team, with limited success.
Rams’ Defense
The defense continues to find success coming in 11th for total yards allowed and is currently ranked 2nd in first downs given up.
The defense is getting off the field a lot as they rank 6th in total snaps played, yet they have to rely on this offense that only seems to find success if they can get the ball to Cooper Kupp.
This game is a must-win for the Rams to show that they are better than their 2-3 record before fans start writing off their season.
Key Injuries
Looking at the NFL injury report, you will see quite a few Rams and ones that would be major losses to the Rams if unavailable. Cooper Kupp is listed as questionable, along with Tyler Higbee and Brian Allen.
On the defensive, Aaron Donald is questionable alongside David Long Jr and Taylor Rapp
Betting Trends to Know
The Rams have scored ten or fewer points in 3 games this year. Even if they score more on Carolina, don’t expect a ton of scoring.
Panthers vs. Rams Odds Breakdown
With a large spread and large Panthers betting odds, it may be hard to make Panthers vs. Rams betting picks.
The spread is currently set as the Panthers being +9.5 underdogs with a moneyline of +370. The Rams’ moneyline is at -460. The point total is set at 41 points even.
Panthers vs. Rams Betting Picks
Moneyline
I personally wouldn’t bet on the Rams at -460, as they are way too inconsistent to have such a heavy price. The price to get any meaningful earnings isn’t worth the risk of the bet at such a heavy price.
The Panthers betting odds are so large a small side bet might be attractive to some, as you never know what a new coach can do for a squad. I mean, look at Vegas last year. Still, I like the Rams to win this easily.
NFL Pick: Rams (-460)
Spread
Again I’m not feeling great about this pick either. I don’t think the Rams have shown enough consistent offense to cover such a window.
No, I don’t think the Panthers are some super team, nor do I think the Panthers should be able to keep up, yet the Rams just keep showing that they aren’t trustworthy in these situations, being 0-2 against the spread when five or more point favorites.
NFL Pick: Panthers +10 (-110)
Total
This is my favorite bet when it comes to Panthers vs. Rams betting picks. However, it would make sense for this to be the game where the Rams figure things out on offense and put up large numbers, though it would’ve made sense earlier in the year. But you can’t expect it to happen.
NFL Pick: 42 (-110)
Panthers vs. Rams Score Prediction
I think both teams have a harder time finding the endzone, more so due to themselves than the opposing defense. I believe a low-scoring game is in order.
Though the Rams will feel like they controlled the game, they will still not find the endzone as much as they wanted.
Score Prediction: Los Angeles Rams win 20-13
